Number for the taipei dog pound

what is the number for the taipei dog pound? for the past week there has been a dog on the 3rd floor of my apartment in heat. this has attracted a few stray dogs, one of them being a black scraggly dog who has a wire trailing behind him that is also growing into his neck. he stinks to high heaven and has taken to coming up to the 5th floor to park off. i want him outta here. he is sick and he stinks and no one can get near him. he is dying a slow painful death with this wire and his neck is clealy gangrene which i can smell from a mile away. it makes me want to puke.

while i applaud all the efforts on behalf of foreigners and locals alike to help stray animals, i just want this thing outta here. there is no way to make him better and i’m tired of wanting to vomit each time here is on the stairs and i’m on my porch (2 apartments away).

so, if someone could please give me a number to call so he can be removed from the premises, i’ll be ever so grateful.

Thank you
J.

The problem is that the pound will propably send him to a nice cage under the sea. Maybe we should try to catch him, remove the wire…see if it heals, or even take it to the vet.

He looks pretty fine otherwise…would u mind him if he hung around that are without the stinkies?

Sean…what do u think?

I’ll come and get him.

Where is it?

Call me ASAP.

Many thanks,

Sean

ya, i would mind. I’m tired of all the dogs and the mess the make tearing into trash bags and walking around in packs and shitting and pissing everywhere. i don’t like coming home late at night to find a pack of 3-4 dogs wandering up and down the stairwell. Someone needs to come and round them up.

Sean, if you’re willing to do it, it could turn into an all day event as this dog is quite skiddish. He and the others can be found on Songshan Road, lane 650, alley 15. this lane/alley across from YongChun High school and you’ll make a left and drive all the way down the street until you hit a temple and can go no further.

if one calls the pound, do they send someone out? does anyone know how this works? How does one say in chinese “come get these stinky muts out of my neighborhood?”

Bushibanned and his pack of dogs live somewhere around here:

I’ll come this evening and try.

Thanks for the map, Juba.

Bushibanned, you’ve said enough already - I’ll do my best. Try to remember that these animals are in their current predicament because of human neglect; they are not there by their own choice.

Somewhere on a canine forum there’s a poster called Bushitail complaining about all the humans making a mess of his neigbourhood, too.

I should be there around 7.15.

Sean

I know where it is…unfortunately I am working in Taishan until 10pm.

Go down Zhongxiau East Rd sec 5…(towards the mountains, not the city) turn right in Song Shan road. (there is a green bridge going over Zhonxiau E Rd where Song Shan road is)

Go all the way up Song Shan, and there will be a bunch of buses parked on your right. Turn left straight after the buses…thats the alley u need to be in. The dogs are usually around there…The injured one is thin, black, and has a tail that curls upwards…

straydog i know it’s not their fault and my heart goes out to them. It is very hard seeing them around sick and in pain and neglected. however, it is also a health issue. I posted on this forum because you came highly recommended by my friend, Battery9. i am very grateful that you are willing to help and have the resources and ability to do so.

Well, we’ll see how we do with a baited crate and a dog-catching stick. If I’m unsuccessful this evening, I’ll bring someone tomorrow who can knock it out with a blowdart.

Hope that’s OK. Just give me a couple of days to get this dog. I can try and move the others for you, too, but that might be a few days later.

In the meantime, can you shut your building door, or is it one of those that the residents prefer to keep open?

Also, if you speak to your neighbour with the dog in heat, we will spay her for free if he will allow it. It’s healthier for the dog and much less of a nuisance for him and his neighbours.

Thanks for the directions, Battery9.

Sean

The dog wouldn’t let us anywhere near it - it was roaming outside.

There was a couple living there who feed and take care of the cats. They helped us track down the dog, and I’ve left a crate there, which they will try to trap the dog in, as it comes to them for food every day.

If not, it’s blowdart time!

We’ll get him. …

That neigborhood is so wicked…if a penny drops the whole neigborhood comes out to see what’s going on. I would hate to have an affair there! Good luck.

what an incredible guy this Sean fellow is!! Thanks battery9 for the recommendation. I checked this morning and the crate is still there and should you remember my post on the army guys, it turns out, according to some of the neighbors, that they tie up dogs and beat them. This poor stinker gets a regular beating as well we were told by the woman sean referred to, who also seems to have a heart of gold when it comes to strays. he husband helped them look for the dog and stood outside for quite some time giving sean and his partner the low down on the animal situation in this neighborhood.

sean, thanks for all the effort you’re putting into this! :notworthy:

And lupillus, don’t forget! She’s always a great help. Thanks, lupillus.

Jia Wen is coming on Saturday to blowdart the dog. We can’t do it before, as it needs to be done in the daytime, as the dog will run off and collapse, and we’ll need to find it.

Hope you can bear with us until then, bushibanned. Maybe the couple can catch it in the crate before then.

We will get it Saturday - I promise.

Sean

(p.s. Thanks for the kind words, but Jia Wen is like twenty times more commited than I am and has helped hundreds of dogs on her own - she’s just a young woman with a deep compassion for our best friends)

how is it going? Did you find it yet?

i haven’t seen that dog or the others it hung around with since sean was here last week. maybe he got enough of a fright from all the people following it and moved on… or maybe he has died somewhere in the moutain.

sean - not sure if you have been by but your big dog crate isn’t there anymore.

Thanks for the heads-up.

We came there this morning for a couple of hours, but the dog didn’t show up. We’ll try again during the week, late at night. I hope Monday.

We found another with a nasty neck wound and tried to dart her, but Jia Wen felt the dog was never in a safe position to be darted. It’s so frustrating to see an animal suffering and not be able to do anything about it.

Those friggin’ guys at the military camp; if it’s true what your neighbour told us, I will report it. I need some more pics, though, to make a better case.

And, yes, I grabbed the crate - thanks.

Let us know if you see - or smell - him at all.

Thanks,

Sean

Great job for the effort anyway, Stray Dog! I doubt most folks realize just how hard you work at this! :notworthy:

UPDATE:

We have the dog! The neighbours followed our advice and kept feeding him until he became more trusting, then they got a leash on him. They took him to the nearest vet to have the wire removed and the wound tended to.

He’s pretty messed up, but he seems OK. He’s at my house right now (stinking the place up) and will go to see our vet tomorrow morning. Then he’ll stay at our Bali facility (thanks to all those kind Forumosans who helped us prepare the land and get the fences up  ), where he’ll have his bandages changed every day, get a bath, and fed a healthy, wholesome meal twice a day.

Then, we’ll try and get him adopted. He’s pretty quiet and relaxed, so he has a good chance. I’ll see if we can get him in the newspaper to increase his chances.

So glad we got him. Gawd bless those neighbours.

Night, all.

That’s excellent. Even if he ends up being a stray again, at least that wire isn’t around his neck anymore!!!
