There’s a new service via phone web-app. It works for phones/tablets only (advanced users: unless you use user-agent spoofing ex. via Chrome ‘Inspect’ and switch to mobile).
NO idea if it works but I went through the process. Some prompts are in Chinese but it’s 95% English. Seems straight forward. In the end you have to print/mail out a couple documents. Fingers crossed.
Notes
I didn’t need to enter any ‘home’ phone as mentioned above
Have your passport ready, as entering entry/exit dates is done manually
Seems to be no need to enter NHI / labor insurance figures since they are under the standard deduction
I did online filing for the first time last year. This year I’m going back to the more convenient walk-into-the-tax-office-and-be-a-dumb-foreigner method, which gets me in and out like in ten minutes.
I heard that card is great. You can even check health care records, order credit reports, etc… but I already like hanging out in pajamas, if I get that card I’ll never need to leave the house
It’s just so easy to go in, obtain your reported income sheet, verify it is correct, have them fill out the tax form for you, file it, and pay…I don’t know why anyone would bother with this.
You put it in your card reader, download the software, get a bunch of obscure error messages, spend hours trying to troubleshoot, smash your keyboard against the desk, and then go to the tax office and do it in 5 minutes.
I just did exactly that this morning. From walking in the door to exiting took 26 minutes, 15 minutes of that was waiting because the “foreigner” windows happened to be full at the time.
Edit: I can’t imagine this level of service would ever be possible for a foreigner in a US tax office.
Yesterday I went to the tax office with an agency member who works with our school.
They messed up because I work in Taoyuan City but live in New Taipei City.
So we get there and they guy says I can’t file taxes her the regular way but he can do it all for me online. Only thing is I have to wait until July/August to get the Tax Certificate (the blue piece of paper) and they will give it to me at the New Taipei City tax office when I present my ARC.
So yeah, he did it all for me just with my ARC and bank account number and then printed out a bunch of pages with info on it and showed showed me the amount I will receive in my account in August.
