Pelosi visiting Taiwan in August 2022

Of course, who doesn’t get that?
Nobody is saying otherwise

Then there is nothing wrong with Taiwan exercising its rights.

imagine if Taiwan threatened both China and Russia for visiting each with military force.

it’s clearly just bullies with little king syndrome. not worth enabling.

Ok again that’s not the main point
It’s whether this is the most skilful and wisest decision, in the present time and situation, to advance actual long term goals

Everyone understands the way things should be,but unfortunately, the world isnt necessarily that way.

I think it is. We’ve moved up to US number 3. Only two positions left. There was a time when the number one visited China even though the US didn’t have relations with China.

Can we get a reverse Nixon?

many of us realise this and say we need to make efforts to change the current insanity. Basically we need more friends with big guns to get the little kings to F off.

Ok. What are the long term goals?

Yeah as long as this does do that. See my analogy of antifa in the US. Since they have become mainstream, they have only galvanized the far right in the US

Sometimes the best strategy in the long term, is not what our instincts want in the short term

Taiwan is a democracy and those goals may shift over time. IMO, the goals of the public are self determination towards recognition of Taiwan’s idependence and the ability to choose Taiwan’s name and status.

Obviously having foreign leaders come to Taiwan is a recognition of Taiwan’s independence.

IMO, and this is my opinion and from my experience, you are a bit out of touch. No major political party pushes your agenda, because simply, it’s unpopular

Most people would settle with keeping the status quo indefinitely, if it meant staying safe and prosperous in the long-term. Formal independence is really secondary

true, but I dont think most are extremists. they exist here, but accepting visitors is not at all like antifa.

the goal is eventual peace, stability and when the missiles ppint away the proper status of what we already are (a country).

I hope the long term goals last longer than the 50 year timeframes, that would be very sad.

I disagree. The status quo is the compromise that makes nobody happy. Taiwanese, especially young people consistently poll and express their nationality as Taiwanese and yearn to be a Taiwan Republic.

This is a very easy opinion to find.

The only reason why we’re in the ROC with these silly claims to China and Mongolia on paper is due to this duress compromise.

Remove China from the equation. I don’t think they will say, let’s keep the limbo land.

He who gives up freedom for security deserves neither.

trouble is it wont mean that, and currently does not mean that. china threatens constantly, this isnt a great status quo.

They want to be Taiwanese, there is very little interest in changing the constitution, that’s why I think you are out of touch. Your opinions are more in-line with the Chen era. And I don’t mean to offend, but it’s true

If my aunt had a dick, she would be my uncle

Yeah but what’s the end game?

I honestly don’t know. I just think need to wait out till the bigger picture changes

I don’t consider your post offensive. I don’t consider disagreements offensive so I don’t know where this is coming from.

I just simply disagree. I think Taiwanese want to change the constitution and would change it at the first opportunity they get. If NATO came out and said don’t worry guys, all 30ish of us will support you militarily, you guys make the choice.

Just because Taiwan has to walk a tightrope doesn’t mean they’re not interested.

I don’t know a single person who LIKES being called Chinese Taipei at the olympics.

I think they’d take it in a heartbeat.

I still want my original suggestions I made in the office, while the office accepted a modified version other people voted on and compromised with me, I still want what I originally wanted.

who knows. the end game for china is obvious.

I just really doubt waiting around for china to become ethical and fair is a good strategy for Taiwan. things have gotten progressively worse over time, not just during Tsai’s time.

These days this is far from guaranteed.
