Pets in Taiwan other than dogs and cats

So there are people selling meerkats in my neighborhood.
Is it legal to own one as a pet? And if so, how hard is it to take care of one?

There are a number of animal import companies. Big to small, common to nearly extinct. There was a post on facebook last year looking for ants to feed their thorny devil (obviously illegal , Australia. As well as being widely known to not being able to be kept in captivity with very few exceptions.

Fun fact for future reference. Taiwan has started banning sale of online animals. Need a brick and mortar or in person. Not sure if this includes the common stuff like cats and dogs, but certainly exotics. Websites like shopee have been removing all such advertisements due to this.

There is a pretty vibrant exotics trade in Taiwan. Drives me nuts as much of it is illegal and nearly all of it is completely unethical. But the trade is alive and profitable.

Why would anyone buy even cats and dogs? Seriously animal breeders are basically committing animal cruelty. I rather adopt strays.
