I’m going to have to put in a vote for worst pizza here. Jim’s Pizza in Nangang, so greasy (NY thin crust) not just on the top, but the crust was greasy. One of my boys even threw up. Not cheap either. Sports bar style joint. Two pizzas had the same problem. I felt queasy, before I could even eat enough to feel full. Never again. No. 19, Xinmin Street, Nangang, sorry, but my vote says AVOID!
literally all of them except Gusto and Pizza Rock off the top of my head. maybe one or two more decent ones. oh yeah Pizza has a Face is quite good too. near main station
When I was at university, this young bloke opened a pizza place. The uni was in a tiny town and this was one of the only restaurants. It was vile, but great for a late night snack if you’d been out on the piss all night. And he gave my band credit, because we were good for it at the end of the month.
We used to call the pizzas “Oil on Canvas”. The pizza was filthy. It tasted and looked like the hair of a '50’s mobster.
Then he won the grand Lotto prize, and we never saw him again. Such heady days!
I doubt that anything in Taiwan comes close to approximating that horror.
Well, this one might come close, oiliness-wise. I make my own pizza with part-skim mozzarella, which works far better for me. Dunno what could have resulted in such extreme grease in this case. Truly disgusting. Hope they can fix it.
Oh then you haven’t explored. I always recommend Zoca’s for real Italian pizza made by a real Italian.
Go in December to secure your spot for Panettone. Credit to @_Lilith for directing me to a childhood favourite.
I think they coat the pizza with butter or oil, its. A thing here. When i was at a hut buffet (i eat vegetarian so they cook extra cheese especially for me) and the first 10 inch i got was washed in some oilly butter shit, i called them over and said dont do that on the next 2 and they stopped… it was nasty And intentional
Other hut buffets didnt do that… i think the chef thought it taste better…
Also I went to a place in ximen now closed (only for all you can eat) they used f’ing ketchup for red sauce…disgusting . and they said cheddar cheese and it was not it was Nacho Cheese liquid… nasty… their pesto was good not shocked they went out of business…
I walked in and walked out again, the prices are insane for a local taiwanese place.
Would avoid Zoca at all costs. Pizza not memorable, worst lasagna I’ve ever had, expensive. I can’t accept eating food at places where I can cook it better.
Worst pizza in Taiwan is probably Auntie Su’s.
Would also avoid The Shack in Xindian and Little New York at all costs.
Not recently. Did 20 years ago. It’s fun and healthy and economical to make sourdough whole-grain pizza at home anyway, the boys love helping. But once in a while Dragonbabe orders something at random via Uber Eats when I’m at work or dines out with the boys at whatever she sees, passing by, and hits a bombshell.
Auntie su was so so so bad and the wait was crazy prices high… once and never again
I respectfully disagree
Interesting. I’ve had their pizza two or three times, only takeout though. Except for low CP value and generally being far from the best pizza I’ve had in Taiwan (pizza thirteen neihu - closed), it didn’t seem “bad”. I guess I would have minded oil soaked pizza as well.
I wonder whether they treat eat-in pizzas with the oil bath but not takeout…
And I respectfully agree with your disagree
Yeah @_Lilith is Italian and likes it, recommended it to me, an Italian and I like it and the shop is run by an Italian and he likes it because he makes it.
Good enough for me!
I’ll probably get killed for this, but I think Mia Cucina is better than Zoca. I think Mia Cucina is the best Italian food I’ve had here that is priced mid-range. I do need to try more places though; it’s tough because I make can prepare sick Italian food at home
I’ll give it a shot, since I’ve been here Italian food and pizza have come a long long way.
Regarding Zoca, I do think (like anywhere) they can have a bad day from time to time. He struggles to find good help and in a shop that busy sometimes shit happens. It’s rare though. I’d encourage you to give it another shot and if you didn’t try the desserts or gelato last time, give them a go.
Omg vegetarian pizza… its actually ok imo expensive as im a cheap ass non meat eater
I am sorry but this that is completely ridiculous—this is not a lasagna thread!
I challenge you to try Frederico’s ESTATE pizza and claim it sucks.
Guy
You are far more polite than I am.

Mia Cucina has one of the best classic marinara pastas in Taipei. But I wouldn’t call them mid-range, probably mid-high range… Their flatbread is around ~400NTD and their smallest pasta portion costs ~300NTD (just enough for one person). They also have a 10% service charge.
