Pope Francis closes the door on the death penalty

Say what you will about China, but they keep the rich people reined in. Though having a party deciding stuff does have its own set of problems.

This is why the founding fathers of America insisted power be separated and distributed. Concentrated power leads to absolute power, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

This is why the second amendment is so important. It makes sure the gun is pointed at the oligarchs so they don’t piss the people off too much.

They just drive out rich people who do not boot lick CCP. Xi’s family is extremely rich because of corruption.
They shut down anyone getting too powerful. Just look at Jack Ma.

Umm…possible contradiction?

Doesn’t matter. I’m talking about the original founding father’s intent vs today’s vastly curtailed rights.

The government decides who the constitution applies to.

They enrich the people loyal to the right faction within the CCP. The ones loyal to the wrong ones or don’t tow the general party line are purged with made up charges.

Grammarnazi alert- personal pet peeve edition: “toe the line”, not tow.

You won’t get anywhere if you don’t pull your wait.

The point is to make them care.

Vastly curtailed rights?

Compared to 1776? When only white male land owners had rights? When people literally had slaves?

You sure we’re the curtailed ones?

Well, if you’re a United Empire Loyalist, you no longer have the right to the land the radical peasant mob stole from you and then said it would compensate you for but didn’t, so in that sense your rights have been curtailed. :tumble:

If you’re a first generation Canadian with no ties to the 13 colonies, it’s a different story.

My ancestors who moved to Canada from the old country are still alive.
