Thanks for the updates, and to those who are giving up time and resorces to help Mark and his family out, it really is commendable.
The waiting is terrible for those close.
Stick with it Mark.

The reporting of the “5%” figure in that link was dismayingly irresponsible - just some guy who’s supposedly Ma Ke’s friend making an irresponsibly pessimistic remark in a very nonchalant manner.
Now is a time to be supportive and positive to Ma Ke and his loved ones.
Hang in there, Ma Ke. You’ll make it.

Just read in the news that Ma Ke has only got 5% chance of survival…

I hope it’s not true. God bless him…
Utter balderdash…Ma ke’s condition is critical but stable at the moment. Please stay with this thread for ACCURATE information regarding his condition. There are several forumosans besides myself that are visiting Ma ke on a regular basis and we’ll be updating this thread as we get more info…Meanwhile, lets offer him and his family the kind of support they need by not falling prey to media sensationalism at a time like this.

A fine well measured response.
I would have commented myself, but my response would have been something pent up and along these lines:“@**!#?unmentionable@*@#obscenity@!:&,expletive…, bloody unmentionables…”
Suffice it to say, would I chance upon one of their jackals lurking about, I would have the utmost difficulty in restraining my impulse to make them acutely realize that Elton John’s loathing (that one night at the airport) would pale in comparison…
But I digress.
Mark’s family are adjusting to their new situation. His father surprised us all by showing up last night at the airport to meet Mark’s mother & sister. It’s great to see them rally around each other in this difficult time. I’m sure it’s done their spirit some good to see Mark’s kids today.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all concerned for their posts, pms, and phone calls of support & sympathy.
Take Care,
Ginger
Gingerman, this is a general reply, not a specific reply to your typically considered words above.
Right now, for all of you that are Mark’s friends and relatives, it is important to understand this is a marathon, not a sprint. You can’t help anyone unless you’ve helped yourself to at least some rest.
Although I have my nurse Ratchett cap floating around somewhere, I’m an old hippie, and I do believe postitive thoughts, as in prayer or whatever you want to call it, do help. With that in mind I also believe it helps the focus if you have an image. And so here’s an image of Ma Ke.

All the best.

Holy crap. Is that Mark? We met in Alleycats one night. Tash had the worlds most minging toe, and Mark let her show him the monstrosity, and even let her take pictures of his toes to put on her blog. He came across as someone who loved life. My thoughts go out to his family.
You got that one right - Mark definitely loves life - and people! He’s a sweetie.
Okay here goes. Was just up there this afternoon, Sunday. MaKe is moving some now, very small movements and seems to be responding to familiar voices. That is just what it seems like but not sure just yet. That is a step in the right direction. Things are still very critical but we are all praying and everyones good/positive thoughts will help. His family say they are handling it better now but are very tired. No other news from the doctors to inform you all of though.
To those out there, not here, that have said things not so good, I agree with Gingerman. I would have let them have it. MJB you posted better words than I would have used. He was wearing a helmet. Other speculation about anything else is just that. (a side note. always wear a good SNELL or DOT approved helmet, not a Taiwan cheapy. A few bucks more but … It may save your life.)
My family’s prayers go out to Mark and his family. He will make it. He is tough and pig headed enough that he won’t let this take him down. If you have good stories about Mark please post them as I know his family is checking on here. It may help lift their spirits a bit. Positive thoughts create positive actions. Let’s direct them to his full recovery and to all of us hearing that strange(lol) guy talking and joking again.
I will, along with others here, update as we know more. So for now, all my best to you Mark and a speedy recovery.
Good stories about Mark?
Ha. Most are quotes that I shouldn’t repeat.
Tell you what, though. Just about every little cutie actress that comes on the show flirts with him. It isn’t his looks, it’s his smile. You can’t help but want to be around him. He is the kind of man who can say something WAY out of line to you, you kick him in the shins and you both laugh while you are doing it.
Last week he was dressed up as a sultan. The pants were WAY too tight. He was running around making everyone look. I somewhat can’t believe they sent him on the air like that. Haha.
When he did his rap about being hakkanese in taiwanese (which was supposed to be the humour of it, I think) everyone laughed. When we were walking to the MRT station he went into 7-11 only to rap to them. Haha.
Never met Ma Ke, but terribly sad to hear this news. I’m praying for him and his family. Jia-Yo!
I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting the big fellow, but I truly hope he’ll get mended and get back to lighting up the world around him with his massive exuberance.
I never met MaKe, and we are strangers in a strange place - that’s what we have in common. He looks like a guy I would connect with, and I will send my positive energy for his recovery.
MaKe, be strong and fight your way to the surface - please!!!
Signs that he is moving a little after only a few days is good news. Let’s hope the trend continues over the coming weeks.
For all here,
Mark is moving both arms in response to questions…It’s controlled. He also has some pupil dialation in response to light, which is the first seen since the accident.
A great leap forward…Now onto the next step.
More this evening,
MJB

Great news. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Great news, thanks for the update and thanks to all those helping his family in different ways. This accident is terrible news, and my thoughts are with MaKe and his family. I hope he can make a good recovery.
What happened to all the prayers (even though I’m not much of a religious man?)
Mark will be fine. I don’t there will be any trouble raising whatever funds are needed. One strange thing is that for the last week or so Mark was on my mind all the time. I was suppose to arrange a time to go down (or up is it?) to Zhongli and kick it with the big man, something that I was always going to do “tomorrow” (so to speak.)
The first time I met him I thought he was just some foreign dick on TV that made a fool of himself (I suppose I was playa hatin’ a bit, I met him on the set of a TV show.) Later on I came to realise that he is a pimp, scholar and gentleman on TV that makes a fool out of himself.
I saw him on TV last week in those tights and was going to call him and make fun of him for looking like Brad Pitt in Troy. It was that same night that I came home and saw the thread about him falling off the bike (or very close to it.)
He told me some good shit on the phone calls I had with him. Good things like “Be yourself” (though I think he put it diffetently, maybe something like “@##^^%@56#$% be yourself.”)
I really do hope he pulls through. I really wanted to get out there and hang out with him and won’t hesitate one second when the opportunity next arises.

I had a conversation with Mark about you at KFC a few months ago…maybe 2. I was telling him how cool you were and about your martial arts experience. And he was like “Miltownkid, huh?”. I don’t know if you knew him much before that. Funny thing is I ran into him a few weeks after that and HE started talking about you…and also mentioned your martial arts…I think he forgot that I was the one that told him in the first place…hehe…it was kinda funny. He probably already knew you and just knew you by your real name.
Hang in there, ya big freak!
I always get a laugh when I’m sittin around the idiot box watching you and others like Kim chattin it up on those shows.
You’re one tough bastard so I know you’ll fight this one and win like the warrior you are.
Has this thread been made a damn sticky yet?
That sums up Mark quite well - he’s never afraid to be himself. ![]()
Just caught this thread and I’m saddened to hear the news about a friend from the old Zhongli days. Mark’s a tough mother&%#@er, he’ll pull through.
