I met Mark briefly on a talk show back in Summer 2005. He seemed like a very nice guy.

HELLO EVERYONE…
I AM MARK’S SISTER, RACHEL.
FIRST OFF, I WOULD LIKE TO REALLY THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR GOOD WISHES AND WONDERFUL, SO OBVIOUSLY HEARTFELT COMMENTS ABOUT MY BROTHER.
HE HAS A HUGE HEART AND HAS ALWAYS WANTED GREAT THINGS FOR HIS FRIENDS, HIS FAMILY, HIMSELF. HE IS A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS AND TOUGH AS HELL SO I AM EXPECTING HIM TO WAKE UP AND GET BETTER.
I ONLY HAVE ONE BIG BROTHER, AFTER ALL…
MY MOM AND I ARRIVED FROM THE STATES ON SATURDAY, MY DAD FROM CHINA. WE HAVE BEEN PRACTICALLY ‘LIVING’ AT THE HOSPITAL SINCE WE HAVE ARRIVED AND THAT IS MORE THAN FINE WITH ME. CAN’T IMAGINE BEING ANYWHERE ELSE.
MARK’S FRIENDS ARE AMAZING. THEY HAVE GONE MORE THAN OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP US, SUPPORT US, LISTEN TO US, TRANSPORT US, HUG US…I COULDN’T HAVE DREAMED UP BETTER PEOPLE TO HAVE AROUND MY FAMILY AT THIS TIME.
WHEN I FIRST ARRIVED I WAS EXTREMELY SAD, DISAPPOINTED, SCARED, PISSED, HOPEFUL…REALLY THOUGHT I WAS FOOLING MYSELF WITH THAT LAST ONE-HOPEFUL, BUT…
I KNOW NOW, 100%, THAT MARK KNOWS WE ARE HERE. THAT IS CRITICAL FOR ME. HE RESPONDS MORE AND MORE WITH EACH DAY. WHEN WE ASK HIM TO MOVE TO LET US KNOW HE KNOWS WE’RE HERE, HE DOES. ALMOST ALWAYS AT THIS POINT. MAYBE IT’S A TIGHTER SQUEEZE ON HIS WIFE’S HAND, OR A LIFT OF HIS ARM, OR A SCRUNCHED FACE WHEN I PLAY WITH HIS NOSE…BUT IT’S SOMETHING.
I EVEN ASKED HIM-IF HE THOUGHT I WAS ANNOYING-TO MOVE HIS HAND. HE DID. OKAY, WELL MAYBE HE’S A LITTLE CONFUSED STILL
ANYWAY, I HAVE READ ALL OF THE POSTS AND FEEL THAT EVERYONE POSTING HAS NOTHING BUT THE BEST OF INTENTIONS AND THAT IS WONDERFUL. I THANK YOU.
IF WE ALL STICK TOGETHER, WORK TOGETHER, LISTEN TO EACH OTHER, WE WILL EASILY FIND A WAY TO HELP MARK AND HIS FAMILY. HE MOST CERTAINLY NEEDS YOUR HELP AND WHAT’S SO GREAT IS THAT MARK IS JUST LIKE ALL OF YOU. HE WOULD BE ONLINE RIGHT NOW TRYING TO HELP WHOEVER IS HURT. GOOD PEOPLE.

I’d like to be one of the many Forumosan members who welcome you here. Lovely reading your first post and I hope your families time in Taiwan can be as pleasant as possible under these difficult circumstances and we are all with you in wishing Mark a speedy recovery.

dayum… i’ve seen him on TV a few times and he’s always seemed to be a nice guy… i used to think he was the blonde guy who does “fun in taiwan” or whatever it’s called… but he never replied when i asked him… but now that i know who he is for sure, yeah… he’s always seemed a great guy on the tube…
my prayers are with you big guy… here’s to hoping you get better soon as much as you can’t read this, i’m sure the guys visitng you will pass on the support of the forumosan community…
as the taiwanese would say… “trust me, you can make it.”

Hi all. Another update.
The CAT scans that were done this morning came up looking a lot better. There has been a lot of improvement and there is no longer any bleeding on the brain(as I understand it). That means the swelling will now go down and other medication can be given to him. He is definitely responding to stimuli, both verbal and touch, now. I can give you a more indepth review after I talk to the dept. head. But for now, I’ll just say a VERY BIG NOTICABLE DIFFERENCE.
The family is VERY upbeat and so they should be. I know the nasty old fart will pull through, even if just to bug me about this line alone. He has the best surgeons around looking after him so I have the confidence he will make it.
Let me also say “Welcome to Forumosa Rachael”. You are a beautiful person inside and out. Mom you are a great lady and radiant. Keep up the smiling and positiveness cause you are passing it on to Mark and all those around you. I agree that positive energy expands exponentially and it is working at great speed.
A PayPal account may be a good thing. I will look into it. About how much, we don’t know yet but it will be awhile so the costs will be big. MJB will post more on things like that later. We all seem to be leaving a lot for him to do so we all thank you big time. Hey, no problem about the connection, we all have them.

I forgot who said something about the capitals on 22222’s posts but that is the only way she could do it on the computer she was using(we’ve all been there with the Chinese on these keyboards). So I for one would rather see a post in capitals than no post at all. Say hi again Rach…
Glad to hear of signs that Mark’s improving. It’s a long and winding road but you have the support of friends, family and the local community. The world needs more funloving characters like Mark who you can both laugh at and laugh with.

Here’s my rough draft “fund raising”-ish idea I had while driving around this morning.
A blog could be setup that tracks the progress of the case (the stuff that’s publicly releasable) On said blog could be one of those goal thermometer things, a link to paypal (and other similar sites) for donations and instructions for donating via bank transfer (for those in Taiwan.) There could be a page that paints a colorful picture of Mark (in Chinese and English) with words, pictures and video. And… Yeah, something like that.
There’s my rough draft idea.
A blog could make it’s rounds around the blogshere and get word out to people that would be interested in helping that would otherwise not find out.

it’s great to hear that he’s pulling through… i’m still in shock from this morning when i first found out about it… watching him on tele, he’s one of the few foreign ‘tv stars’ here that i like… and he’s always trying to crack a joke or two…
by the way… just saw the start of a music video by edison chen? (not sure, but reminded me of edison)… and i coulda swore mark was in that video… anybody know anything about this?? i couldn’t get the title/artist because they cut off the end of the song (like they often do during commericals in taiwan)
I’ve been keeping track of this thread but I never knew Mark so didn’t know what to say. It seems like a lot of my friends are close with Mark and it must be a pretty rough time right now. I’ve been thinking of you guys and will continue to do so… there’s not much I can do to help Mark but if there’s anything I can do for YOU then say the word.

Likely was. He does music videos. Also done a Jay Chou one. And recently some new pop star who he had no idea who was.
Just back from the hospital, and can report that Mark is indeed responding to his spouse and family with hand squeezing, shoulder movement, etc…
The brain swelling is at it’s lowest point yet, and his latest CT scan looks good.
Still a long road ahead.
The fund raising movement is officialy underway…I’ll post details in the next day or two detailing what we plan to do locally once we get some firm confirmations from people.
