Senior trade advisor, Peter Navarro regarding BMW investment in South Carolina: “You take automobiles, what we’re doing now is a scam like BMW comes to Spartanburg, South Carolina, and all we do is assemble German transmissions and autos. It’s like they get all the good jobs. They get all the good profits, and we get stuck with a hindsight. This business model where BMW and Mercedes comes into Spartanburg, South Carolina, and have us assemble German engines and Austrian transmissions. That doesn’t work for America. It’s bad for our economics. It’s bad for our national security." [Note: In 2024 Trump said: “They build everything in Germany, and then they assemble it here. They get away with murder because they say, ‘Oh, yes, we’re building cars.’ They don’t build cars. They take them out of a box and they assemble them. We could have our child do it.”]
Trump’s previous comments on tariffs: “A tariff is a tax on a foreign country. That the way it is….whether you like it or not. People like to say it’s a tax on us. Steve Bannon regarding Trump running for third term: “President Trump is going to run for a third term, and President Trump is going to be elected again on the afternoon of January 20th of 2029. He’s going to be President of the United States. The interpretation of this [holding up the copy of the Constitution] is open for interpretation.”
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trump regarding bond markets:
Bessent – “I think that it is an uncomfortable but normal deleveraging that’s going on…happens every couple of years.”
Trump – “The bond market’s going good. It had a little moment, but I solved that problem very quickly. I’m very good at this.”
This statement worries me. It likely means that he knows there is a problem and that it is not fixed. Reminds me of what people told me in China years ago. The state always lies. Assume that the opposite of what it says is true.
Trump: “Jobs and factories will come roaring back into our country. And ultimately, more production at home will mean stronger competition and lower prices for consumers.”
Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro: “The uncertainty in the stock market isn’t necessarily a negative. It can be an indication that things are going to work out. Just is things are uncertain right now and you have a president that is swinging for the fences.”
Fox News hosts discussing tariff effects on a person’s 401K account: Host 1 – I was in a town event in south Florida over the weekend and I met this guy. He is a retired banker and I asked him about the tariffs cause at that event everyone was talking about the tariffs….because everyone is on a fixed economy for the most part. They were talking about how they were impacted. He said you know I am on a pension and the pension amount doesn’t change. But I looked at my 401K and I am so underwater now. And he had the look of a guy…he was probably in his eighties…he is hoping that this all works….and this all comes back. Host 2 – Imagine if it does work….and it comes back….in a huge way.
Trump discussing El Salvador taking custody of American citizens who’ve committed violent crimes (related to meeting with El Salvador president Nayib Bukele): “We have bad ones too, and I’m all for it because we can do things with the president for less money and have great security. And we have a huge prison population.”
“We always have to obey the laws, but we also have homegrown criminals that push people into subways, that hit elderly ladies on the back of the head with a baseball bat when they’re not looking, that are absolute monsters. I’d like to include them.”
“You’ve got to build five more places”[Note: suggesting Bukele doesn’t have enough prison capacity for all the U.S. citizens Trump would like to send there.
