Reserved parking spaces for pregnant women and drivers with children under 6 years old

My wife can’t wait for the new law to come into full effect next month that makes parking in reserved parking spaces a finable offense.
If eligible you can get a badge that you have to leave in your car when parking in such spaces.

On June 29 this year, the Ministry of Communications issued the “Administrative Measures for the Setting of Parking Space for Pregnant Women and Children Under 6 Years of Age”. Anyone who has a vehicle license in accordance with the regulations can park their car in the exclusive parking space. Until June 29th it is a promulgation period. Once the promotion period is over, vehicles that have not shown their vehicle licenses but park their vehicles in the maternity parking spaces may be fined between NT$600 and NT$1200.

What stops people to keep the badge afterwards?
Unless there’s a plan to give the badges and renew it annually…

It has an expiry date on it.

So, they are already distributing those?
Where do I get one?

Not sure if it answers that question. My wife got them for us. I messaged her and will update when I get a reply.

南投縣政府/不同縣市有不同的安排

Would imagine most of Taipei has one by now. They are very easy to obtain, just bring your kids hospital booklet to the local parking office and they stamp one up for one. Problem is there is no solid connection to your kid or your vehicle. I could pass mine to anyone to use. Technically you are supposed to have the pregnant women or kid in the car with you when you use the placard but no one can tell that when your car is simply parked there. The other issue is that the car parking spaces are supposed to be of a minimum width, however most car parks seem to have just taken a standard spot and painted a pink line around it. Predict widespread abuse ! It’s a pity as it is a great idea which is being implemented extremely poorly.

NT$600 is cheaper than parking two days of street parking. With usual TW enforcement standards, it will be cheaper to park in those spaces.

Agree. At least it should be tied to a car number plate.

Theoretically anyone with a child without a car could get them and sell for profit.
I also think it will be abused.

Hard to enforce this as well. You can simply claim you dropped them off/about to pick up when approached by police.

Such a shittily thought out scheme. Pathetic .

Anyone with 2 kids can get 2, 3 kids 3 etc. If you are a single child family but have 2 cars then sucks to be you as you only get 1!

Yep, great idea but horrible implementation don’t know why drivers have been given more than 6 months to “get used to the system” before starting to fine for parking in those spots. Costco have been the most active I’ve seen, leaving reminder notes on offenders vehicles that the spaces are for pregnant women and those with kids.

This isn’t well thought out.

Tomorrow the promulgation period will be over. Police will be ticketing cars who park without permit on reserved parking. The fine is between NT$600 and NT$1200.

Are these parking places exclusive? I always thought they were preferential only…

Parking on marked parking spots is only allowed if you have a valid permit on display!

There is a new law that will come into full effect tomorrow. I mentioned it in the first post.

Yeah, forget what I said.

I have four kids and two cars. Who wants to buy one?

What is on sale? The kids or the cars?

Depends on how much you are offering.

I’m color-blind. Can I get a handicapped sticker?
