Homeless addicts tend to gravitate to places where it’s easy to score and they’re less likely to be hassled by law enforcement, i.e. San Francisco.

You misunderstand. My intention is not to mock. The homeless crisis is made up of millions of personal tragedies. And it’s sad that the policies of cities like SF and LA make the crisis even worse.
Anyone can blame the state.
How would you handle the situation?
Loosen zoning restrictions so that more affordable housing can be built. SF shouldn’t be a city for the wealthy tech elite and people living paycheck to paycheck…i.e. one paycheck away from the streets.
Have law enforcement actually enforce laws. It’s nearly impossible to break the cycle of addiction when you allow people to steal to support their habits and score drugs with zero consequences.

You don’t think they come for the good weather as he explained in another post. You don’t think the needle exchange programs also make it a place addicts want to be? Not that I’m against needle exchange, but it does bring people there. I worked at a drug rehab, and many addicts also move to Florida where I lived for warm weather. These two things are true.
And you also believe the bullshit narrative about Trump mocking the disabled reporter. Also, how is that statement 99.99 percent inaccurate? Homeless people often move to places like L.A. with milder weather because it makes it easier to live through the winter, and they tend to congregate in places that have lax drug policies (free needles, etc.) because it’s much easier to support their habit there.
There is some logic in that. And yet, if you’re already homeless and unemployed, how are you going to afford that “affordable” housing?

I think one solution is to have different jails for drug offenders tbh. Have a special rehab/jail to help them. Locking them up doesn’t do any good if they don’t fix their addiction. It doesn’t make sense to put a heroin addict in the same cell as a serial rapist. Countries with good rehabilitation rates and non returning offenders do this.
I believe California also does not force drug rehab for drug offenders. They should honestly start.
Also, give tax cuts for businesses that hire drug offenders. One problem we had in rehabilitation and getting people back into the real world was their criminal records. They might have everything together but can’t land a decent job or any job. So they become homeless and return to their habits. Make it worth it to give them a chance.
That’s a good point. I think it’s a good step in preventing people who are at risk of homelessness and not so much helping the currently homeless. Which has it merit. What do you think about my proposals above like giving incentives for businesses to hire drug offenders?
Ideally you want to stop people from becoming homeless in the first place. After that it becomes a vicious cycle and much harder to solve.
The narrative is that he was mocking the reporter’s disability. But he’s used the same gesture on many occasions to mock wishy-washy or indecisive behavior.
I think we’ve all seen the video. It looks, sounds, and smells like a duck. I’m not convinced switching brains with him would reveal anything else.
Trump just mocks people. I don’t really see it as anything more. If he was black, they would have made it out to be because he was black.
And there’s videos of him making the same gesture when talking about various able-bodied people as well.
