Surprised too. I took pineapple cakes and rice wine for gifts for work travel.

taking the risk of infuriating forum members, pineappcakes arent that good… i bought them in the past and it wasnt a hit with my family and friends, they thought i brought them a dry cookie with cheap jam inside…
Taiwan is not known for its pastries, i wont buy that again.

Well, not everything can please everyone.

That being said, you are wrong. Pineapple cakes are delicious! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

A t-shirt from the market with misspelt English words and phrases that don’t make sense. Or, likely from the same store, a t-shirt with something rude written on it–often worn by grannies who don’t know what it says but bought it because its only $100NT or by little kids whose parents don’t know what it says but bought it for the same reason.

When I taught English, I had a kid turn up to class with a “Save a Tree, Eat a Beaver” t-shirt before.

A souvenir from Penghu Uncle Souvenir Shop?

where did you get them from? I’ve only done Chia Te and Sunny Hills, picked up day before or day I left to ensure maximum freshness. (There are plenty of really crappy pineapple cakes out there that I put straight in the trash when people give them to me). Combine good pineapple cakes with some Alishan High Mountain Tea and it makes for a very Taiwanese afternoon tea (or breakfast, not that anyone breakfasts like that here)

Chia Te is popular. If you go to their Songshan main store, it’s always packed with tourists. This one’s good in a pinch

I haven’t had any yet, but is it possible you got a bad brand/batch?

Pineapple cake is mostly high fat and high sugar.

Chia Te is most famous. I passed by today and people were lining up.

That’s not the result of bad Engrish - that’s awesome!

Where are there less busy branches? I dropped by this morning and saw the line. Then I doubled back after lunch and there was still a line but it was shorter

I don’t know if there are others! That one is always busy. Like moves fast though

The cheap ones don’t even use pineapple and replace with 冬瓜。 The good ones taste fresh and don’t last long.

Tea sets, and Chinese spoons with the notch to rest your spoon. Those have been hits.

We usually take back dried squid from Penghu, goes down pretty well.

I got a “Yankees” cap in Matsu that is a cross between and N and the Underarmour logo. It’s really cool, and with an extra long bill, cuz sunshine.

Go to a night market. Sometimes see a hat stall with 20 or so different colored Yankees hats.
Speaking of why Yankees so popular in Taiwan, anyone else watch Netflix documentary on Chien-ming Wang? not bad.
