a friend told me, that a famous japanese fortune teller is predicting a major earthquake for Taiwan on March 25th.
No word about where it will take place, but according to “him” the earthquake will be devasting (close to an 8,0).
Well, another friend told me, that this is alson here on the local news, although I have not seen it yet.
Anyway, just want to mention it here, so for those, who believe on that kind of stuff, please be advised …

Fits right in with those that believe the world ends in 2012.

Funny how they can never get the details right…

I predict that this famous fortune teller will die, sometime after Feb 2011. His heart will stop beating, for some reason, and over time his body will decompose. There will probably be people who mourn his death, but the signs aren’t clear on that detail.
Has anyone heard about what’s his name (Reg Roberts) who predicted the tsunami in 2004? Turns out he has an 85% accuracy in his earthquakes predictions, and he predicts many of them all over the world. His calculations are based on tides and moon cycles, I believe. I wonder what he has to say about this one. I certainly prefer predictions based on actual scientific data over very unscientific fortune telling.
Here’s a link to his websites. Scroll down to the table and pay attention to two columns in particular. 1- His forecasts. 2- Actual events. It’s pretty amazing. He predicted the quake in NZ for Jan. 24+/-3days. The quake happened on the 27th. Close enough if you ask me, and he’s that close or closer on most of his predictions.
He has no current predictions for Taiwan, but he updates his website regularly.
Actually, his accuracy is more than 85%. Predicted events that were observed (234/256) = 91.4% 85% is the percentage of earthquakes that can be predicted using his calculations. That leaves 15% of them unpredictable.
The bigger the quakes are, the more accurate his predictions are.
That guy has predicted a huge earthquake somewhere in the South Island of New Zealand around March 20th. People in Christchurch are freaking out about it. My sister is a nervous wreck waiting for it to happen. As she said, if you are living in an earthquake disaster zone and someone tells you this, how can you ignore it? She says the whole city is just a nervous mess waiting for his prediction to happen. My mother, however, says, that guy should be shot scaring people like that. Afterall, you still have to carry on living even with his prediction. Seeing as I have family all around the area he predicts will be hit, I’m in two minds about it.
My motherinlaw told me there was a study done in India and the people using this prediction method failed to predict any of the big earthquakes during the study period. It was reported on NHK a few years ago.
So, if the South Island of NZ breaks in half between March 15 and March 25, I’ll believe the guy. Of course, I hope that doesn’t happen.
I don’t believe these predictions and I am into astrology. The number one rule of astrology (especially in India) is that a good astrologer will never give you a negative/bad prediction. Besides, the forces of nature are too complex for astrologers to predict. Also, if the quakes don’t happen, no one penalizes them for it…but that’s another thing. The work of an astrologer/soothsayer is to soothe, not create panic.
I am a zillion percent sure, no quake is hitting NZ.

The fortune teller from Japan mentioned in the OP predicts a massive quake for Taiwan later this month but totally missed what happened yesterday in Japan. :loco:
If you look at Reg’s website I linked earlier, however, he predicted a big one in Japan on March 7+/-3 days. He predicted that it would hit the Honshu area. Well, yesterday’s quake epicenter was directly next to Honshu. He predicted it, and it happened. It’s not surprising since he’s accurate 93% of the time for quakes exceeding 6.0.
You may not believe in this, but the facts are there.
I don’t think it’s over yet in Japan… Reg predicts another one of the same magnitude in the Hokkaido Region on March 15+/-3 days. That’s between now and 6 days from now.
Ken Ring is the guy making predictions on TV etc in New Zealand. http://www.predictweather.com/
He’s trying to make it look scientific, if it were, scientists would have got it down pat! I am calling BS on this one.

Hardly necessary. The thread already has "Soothsayers and Fortunetellers " in the title
For that reason, I’ve been thinking about starting a thread dedicated to Reg’s predictions. He also predicted the quake that caused the Tsunami in 2004, by the way. He predicted it for Christmas day. He warned people as best as he could but no one listened to him. He even lost his job. The quake hit on boxing day. Close enough, if you ask me.
He updated his website and he now has one predicted to hit Taiwan on the 15th of March +/-3 days. It’s supposed to be a big one.

So…basically…anytime in the next week then?
So his site says. Strangely can’t find anything else about Reginald Roberts on the web. I’d expect him to be in the news more if he had really predicted things that successfully.
I also don’t see any hint at how predictions are made other than that they are scientific.
Oh well, I suppose at least he isn’t claiming the quakes are a punishment for society’s acceptance of homosexuality, sex before marriage, or some other supposed abhorrent practice.
Must be a horrible job being a prophet - having that surge of happiness when tragedy does strike and you have to hold up the “I told you so card”.

Interesting. I do find it odd that, if he’s had such success predicting earthquakes, that I (and most people I know) have never heard of him. I checked his site, and I don’t really see much for Taiwan, and nothing for March 15th. But maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.
