Soothsayers and Fortunetellers Predicting Disasters

Most unfortunately, my friend lives just over this lunatic’s showroom. For several months, the guy had a large photograph of female and male genitalia -spread eagle view-, with explanatios as to which Zodiac sign each area was related. Please note this was a block away from an elementary school and across from NTU…

He also sold tea and I don’t knwo what trinkets. Really. The place always looked to me like a real estate agency.

The map with the explanation of the cycles and why the end was coming was like 3 X 3, accompanied with relevant pictures of disasters. People buying this? As said, the logic of buying the shelters when there is going to be such a cathastropic failure beats any clear mind…

As o real, relevant data, I told you how the CWB warned about the Filipinas fault, and showed computer simulations of estimated tsunamis if activated. Now that is a worrisome thought.

yah i always thought it was the filipinas fault. CAnt a been my fault ya know?

Wow, that’s crazy, Icon. Sounds like a real nutjob.

I’ve never understood “prophets” who date-fix. Surely there’s no surer way to lose followers? And if he really thinks Taiwan is going to be destroyed by these massive disasters…uh, why is he still here?

Busy selling containers?

He won’t need followers after this.

Naturally. I just don’t get why his followers aren’t asking these questions.

If they did, they wouldn’t be his followers.

Container costs 40K, add 20K in assorted expenses, sell them for 160K… 100K earning on each one. And that’s for starters. heaven knows what other parallel scams he’s running to make this long standing lie profitable.

Has anyone bought a container?

Yes … of fruit jelly.

I’m waiting for the market bubble to burst, before I buy one.

EDIT: My wife just pointed me to this video.

“Please, Sir,…
Can I have some more ?”

This is so unfortunate:

This lunatic self appointed “phophet” is not even an original one. One of my college classmates is a guy who’s always been involved with, ehem, let’s call it “out of the box” stuff. He sent me some links about a “phophecy” based on biblical interpretation of the passage in Genesis about the Big Flood, and how the next flood would be of fire. According to this, if for the Lord one day is a thousand years, and He gave us a week, then it is 7 thousand years after the Flood -as per their calculation, somewhere in the 4990 B.C.- then the date of the Day of Reckoning is May 21st, 2011.

I checked some other stuff on the net and yes, several people, though other means, say May 21st or somewhere in May this year as critical dates. Please note these videos are lumped together with the New Order stuff, population reduction by Illuminati, planet Nabiru or whatever star appearing, etc.

I do hope nothing serious coincidentally happens, don’t wanna hear these bozos boasting on how right they were.

The May 21st people have been out in full force in Taipei, actually. We ran into a group of ladies from the Philippines and the US handing out literature about it in Xinyi, and there was (maybe still is?) a huge, wall-sized poster near the Xinyi Vieshow Cinema stating that May 21st is Judgment Day. The “prophet” who made the May 21st prediction has made several other such predictions before, none of which came true, obviously (I think originally, the world was supposed to end in 1994 or something according to him).

I have heard several people saying things about this recently, and my father-in-law just sent me an email about planets aligning or something. Weird times.

I watched a Derren Brown show called Messiah where he goes to the US and convinces people he can talk to the dead, can predict people’s medical history from an alien abduction he had and can read what dreams you had from a steel box that has a light switch on it.
He learned all the techniques a la cold reading, from studying it from books.

People can be duped:

Romans think May 11 quake in Rome as well ?

They better be skeptical - that is an integral part of the scientific method: if someone presents a hypothesis, then the first thing everybody with an interest in the matter should do is try to prove it wrong - if that fails often enough then the hypothesis will eventually be elevated to a theory, and if it keeps working people will eventually take it for granted. Any less stringent approach is not likely leading to the truth.

Wait… What time tomorrow?

Those containers look pretty neat. I wonder if the communities using them thought of emergency generators to power the air conditioners in the event of the disaster. Could get pretty hot…

Well, the time came and went … and no quake. Teacher Wang had said he would not share his food nor loggings with anyone after the quake struck… hope all he’s got and all the worker’s fees have been paid. Oh, and there was a stone squirmish with reporters.

At least, this little incident revealed there is still hope for the future:

[quote]Before the predicted doomsday moment, a contingent of college students gathered in front of the converted containers with a big clock in hand and started a countdown.

When the moment passed without incident, they shouted in unison “Teacher Wang is a liar.”
