Terrifying news.
Today in Miaoli a random stabbing occurred.
EDIT: English articles:
News video:
Two 11 yr. old children and 50yr. old man were attacked by the assailant.
The man with a knife grabbed an 11yr. girl and stabbed her in the chest as an anqinban teacher tried to grab her away from the man and flee. The other kid that was hurt and the man are in stable condition. The little girl that was stabbed in the chest is still in the ICU.
Overview of the victim’s injuries (going left to right).
11yr. old child: stab wound to the chest, hemothorax (blood collecting between the chest wall and lung).
11yr. old child: lightly injured on the chest, laceration on her elbow.
50yr. old man: stab wound to his back
The assailant had previously spent 9 years in prison for an incident in 2015 where he attacked and stabbing and injuring multiple people in a convenience store with scissors. One of the people he tried to kill in that incident was a responding officer who was saved thanks to his vest in their altercation. He even loudly exclaimed he was going to kill the officer. All this because of an altercation his brother and their neighbor got in and when he couldn’t find the neighbor he went to the convenience store to attack people.
The man was released from prison and returned back to his home just in March this year.
Afterwards the assailant walked back to his home where police apprehended him.
News videos of the incident where the 11yr. old girl was stabbed in the chest, even though it is blurred I still want to say, viewer discretion advised.:
This guy needs to be locked up for life in a mental institution. He’s clearly unwell and his prison sentence did nothing to rehabilitate him.
That being said. I’ve said to my SO that we should practice some sprints as we get older. The reality of many of these life or death situation is that your ability to run and get away from danger can save your life.
Forget self defense classes, 99% of people would be better off doing some sprints to make sure they can get away from danger quickly. Takes years to be good at any martial arts to be worth anything and that goes out the window with a knife and gun.
Doesn’t take a lot of skill to be able to sprint for 15 seconds all out to run for your life.
As the ROC lacks easy access to guns for the mentally ill, this seems to be the preferred method - mass knifing. I remember this from twenty years ago when I was in Taiwan. It was all over the news every day, just as an eerily similar series of attacks that had occurred in 2001.
Usually… but there’s a much greater rate of violence amongst those with mental illness than those who don’t have it. Especially schizophrenia. Lifetime rates of violence for schizophrenic men are 1 in 4, or 25%. For all people, the lifetime rate is 10%. They are 3 to 4 times more likely to engage in violence than normal folks.
The difference is the frighteningly random acts of lashing out by those who are mentally ill. You could just be walking down the street and be knifed because some dude heard a voice in his head that told him you’re the devil reincarnated. People who aren’t mentally ill usually target particular individuals. That’s terrible, but if I’m not married to some abusive piece of shit then I probably don’t have to worry about him attacking me.
I bet he isn’t. People with anger issues attack those they think wronged them, not random strangers. My first thought while reading this was remembering the attack on “little lightbulb.”
Terrifying and saddening news. I hope the victims are okay.
This is neither here nor there and doesn’t really matter … it’s weird to me that in the news screencap of the victims’ injuries, the two girls are light-skinned and brown-haired, and the main is darker-skinned and black-haired.
i’m not? i just stated a statistic fact. it’s true that they aren’t. schizophrenia isnt the only mental illness, but lots of people think the two are synonymous. often times with treatment they can be reformed. this guy clearly wasn’t.
it’s interesting how people use it as an excuse as if he couldn’t just be a sociopath, which is a personality disorder and not a mental illness.
