thanks for a great read fenlander
there was a thread about who might be the toughest SOB ever, and i now have molineaux right up there

Ozzy: That would depend on the larger mans pain threshold, I would guess. Fights are about who’s better at that given moment or second. I’ve seen guys train in the gym that could stun you with perfect movements and shit like that but in the ring lose it and look loose. It’s the nature of the beast.[/quote]
I agree size matters when there is skill factor involved. But the idea that a guy can just go to the gym put on some muscle and then kick any smaller guys ass whether trained or not is a misconception a lot of guys have that lift weights. Occasionally some guys that lift weights have a natural fight instinct but definitely not a high percentage. Some guys are all show like you said. They look great on the mits or the bag.
Sometimes weightlifters have a certain amount of arrogance to them that they can crush any one that weighs less. This gets on my nerves. Although I am not a small guy myself and have lifted in the past I distance myself to their attitudes.

Yeah I totally agree. Cribb and Molineaux were proabably about equal in the ring. But outside it Molineaux was a giant. Just to think what Molineaux did in those days is mind blowing. Imagine this, going through slavery, then sailing in those days all the way to England (Napolean’s time) from America as an ex slave. Seeking out Cribb and fighting him. It is totally mind blowing, I have never heard a story like it. No managers just him gettting on a boat to England!!!
They had a whole UK Channel 4 program on Molineaux. It was a series about Georgian England see if you can find it, as you will love it. There is a book called “Black Ajax”. I want to get it. I am totally in awe of the guy. The book could not get a publisher as there were “racist” words in it as were used at the time. It is damn pity as I can’t believe this guy is so unknown. I’m surprised Spike Lee hasn’t made a movie about him. He really deserves something in his memory. A song a movie something. Awesome MAN.
talk about MOTIVATION!
I know almost nothing about African American history but how this man is almost unknown is beyond me!!!

First off, I’d like to say that if I’ve come off as an arrogant prick, I apologize.
What we’ve come to is this, that or half a dozen of the other. Same thing. I’m going to agree that of course skill plays a role in the fight. No doubt. But if you get a guy who can move and happens to be a bigger man, I’d go out on a limb and say that 8 times out of 10 he’s going to lay it to the other guy who’s been training. A lot of guys lose it when they get into the ring/street and styles go completely out the window.
As a final note, I don’t think I possess great skill. My fighting record as a doorman or in other street fights is 50/50. I’ve been severely fucked up in the past.
Canis: great link. Kimbo is definitely a character and seems like a good dude.
Yeah, I’m going to put my money on the Super Beard + Knuckles combo.

He didn’t get those knuckles playing the piano

I more or less agree with you but go for 7 times out of 10 ha ha
Here you go Monster some Kimbo stuff on here as well as Ray Mercer getting a beating by the world heavy weight boxing champion but showing a lot of spirit. Klitchko ( can’t spell it) apparently hits like a sledge hammer as well. So Kimbo is up against a real challenge in Mercer. Hard one to call. I reckon Kimbo may even go out of his normal style and go for the ground and pound!

The video says it is Kimbo versus Klitchko but it is not that is Mercer boxing. Kimbo is in the other listed clips on there.
Not at all. Although I was not sure of the point you were making. You cleared that up in your final post, I agree with what you have to say.

Kimbo has never really fought for anything outside his little world of debauchery. So I’m going to have to sat that Mercer has a huge advantage when fighting in front of ESPN. Kimbo may choke. But if Kimbo goes into it like he usually does with his tenacity and drive (aggression) without regard for the cable TV then I’m going to have to go with Kimbo to take this. It’s way out of Kimbo’s element. Mercer has the edge.
Kimbo wins by choke.

Kimbo should give half of his winnings to Bas Rutten for giving Kimbo some diversity in the ring. Well done Kimbo!
where was this fight? like where can I see it?
I watched a few kimbo parking lot fights and damn that man is scary. Watched him lose just now to sean gannon. His stamina was fer shit then.
Hope to catch him in the UFC or something similar.
or maybe he and MTK can form a Slice&“Pain” tag team in the WWF.

Thanks monster. Kimbo looked good, showing more MMA then Ive ever seen him use. But the other guy looked like shit. Hello, “Offense” is a strategy.
there are only 6 or 7 fights that can be seen online featuring kimbo,
the guy has built quite a following though
he obviously did a lot of weights and has a hard head, but what do you guys think sets him apart??
he does remind me of TYSON in several ways
holly shit,i’ve just seen the video,
the “old” kimbo was impressive enough, but the Bas Rutten proof kimbo is a monster,
he needs a few more bouts to polish his newly acquired MMA skills and then improve some of his stamina and i reckon that no-one will even come close

I’ve tried to defend street fighters in the past regarding how much they have to deal with outside of their opponents. To no avail, really. Street fighters are generally looked down upon within the MA community for their lack of ‘respect’ or some shit like that.
I think Kimbo has been wanting this exposure for quite sometime. Actually, if I were in his shoes, I’d feel as if I had finally made it somewhere. We’ll be seeing more of Kimbo and I think Bas Rutten saw a bit of himself in Kimbo and did a fantastic job trying to transform him from a bull to a work horse.
Other than that…I really don’t see the comparison to Tyson. Tyson was a very young cat when he got into the ‘sport’ and probably saw very few real street fights like the ones Kimbo was into. Also, I don’t see Kimbo as a nutter either. He seems to have some smarts and has some real character. He’s actually less of a freak show to me than Tyson obviously is.
Way to go Kimbo. I wasn’t expecting that at all. Then again, if Bas told ya to fool the old man by goin’ to the ground then I’d believe it. Mercer could have fucked ya up on your feet. Good game plan. Good job.
I don’t want to disagree with you in principle, but I think the Kimbo situation is not as simple as you make it out to be. For example, Ray Mercer is 46 years old compared with Kimbo’s 33. Kimbo has yet to fight any serious MMA athletes in their prime.
In many ways, his background is not dissimilar from top MMA fighters. Many of the top fighters come from very rough backgrounds and became accustomed to violence and fighting from a very young age, then later turning to MMA and polishing off their skill. Fighters like Tito Ortiz and Jens Pulver turned to MMA to get out of a more violent street situation. Others like Mirko Cro Cop and Shinya Aoki were police officers.
I don’t disagree with you in principle, and Kimbo’s recent fights show he’s not just a chump. But he hasn’t really demonstrated anything other than that a tough guy and with the best training in the world he can handle some low level contenders.

Ok…Kimbo is a tad late unlike the Gracies or Silva or any other beach blanket bongo type fuck toys. You have Ortiz who was/is a bar fighter. Cool. BTW: Crocop is my favorate fighter by far…what a machine.
Moving along: If Kimbo keeps training under Bas then I haven’t a doubt that he can make it into the higher levels of the sport. I think Kimbo has a lot of drive to become more than just an internet supertard. If he’s smart, which I think he is, then he knows that he has to keep stepping it up or he’ll burn the fuck out. How can you not give the guy more credit than “demonstrating more than being anything other than a tough guy”? He went out and did something completely different. Look at the video!
