Student visa information?

I’m trying to gather some info on student visas and such for a friend of mine who is looking into coming over to Taiwan.

If there is anyone out there currently on a student visa or studying at TLI (or simular institutions) please contact me?

I just want to find out how the visa work, what you need, things like that.

There is no student visa. You go with your school admission letter to the visa office, and you get a resident visa.
After that, you have to get an ARC.

Basically, that’s all.

Or, if you are studying at a school like TLI, your friend should get an extendable visitor visa and TLI gives paperwork for visa extensions.

I think you only get the resident visa immediately if you are coming on a scholarship or as an exchange student of some variety. I had to get a visitor visa to study Chinese at NCCU, so it’s not just buxibans like TLI. After four months I was able to apply for a resident visa, and then for an ARC immediately after that.
