Taipei Hiking Club Events Chat III

No, it is not Truant’s fault. No one knew about the 60 day limit except Maoman.

Omni, it seems you are not going on Sunday. Are you interested in the Wulai hike tomorrow?

BTW, seeker4, do you have room in your car for one more? Dan, the fellow we met up at Huangdidian would like to come along.

If I go hiking on a Sunday, I’d better take the wife along, and I don’t think she’d be up to such a demanding hike (i.e. the rope bit) on her first time out.

I was sorely tempted at the prospect of the Wulai hike when I saw your post about it. Since then, I’ve been undergoing a struggle between my wish to go and my need to stay home to work.

Is it the longish hike from Wulai township to Wawagu/Neidong that they’re proposing? What time and where will you be meeting up with them?

Omni. . . the wife. . . :astonished:

I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that idea. She must be really something. :marge:

I miss the great descriptions, from your former life, of the lithe figures, pert breasts and flowing black hair of some gal you passed on the street, took swimming in the mountains, or even just dreamed of. :grandpa:

Omni. . . the wife. . . :astonished:
Two years on and I’m still wondering when the men in white coats will be coming to take me away.
I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that idea. She must be really something. :marge:
Her hair doesn’t look like that at all.

Thank God one can still enjoy looking at the girls in the street and dreaming about all manner of naughties, but alas those frolicsome swims are now but a joy of the past.

You still have me, don’t you. :brokenheart:

I nearly added that swimming with you, S4 and the guys, fun as it is, just doesn’t do it for me in the same way.

But getting back to your plans for tomorrow:
But getting back to your plans for tomorrow:

Do you guys have plans for tomorrow?

Yes, I am meeting some Taiwanese hikers at 9am at Xindian MRT station on Saturday. The hike is up a mountain in Wulai, and not along the forestry road (they did that a few weeks ago).

Ironman you are certainly welcome. It would be nice to have someone else from our group.

Omni?

Well, that sounds like it could be fitted into my day. If I can get up early enough tomorrow morning and use a couple of hours productively before going out, I think I could afford to take a few hours out for a brisk hike, especially if I could be back home in the middle of the afternoon or earlier.

Have they given you any indication of how long they expect the hike to take? And what are the arrangements regarding transport?

They said it was two hours up to a temple, before we pushed on to the top (if we did, it would depend on the weather).

So I imagine if you just wanted a 3 hour hike you could go up to the temple with us and then return.

We’ll probably take buses from Xindian MRT station. You could meet us in Wulai bus station on your scooter before 10 (I could call you when we got on the bus.)

That sounds perfect. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to make it, and will either be at the MRT station at 9 o’clock to go with you on the bus or will scooter up to Wulai and meet you there as you suggested.

So how about coming too, Ironman? You’d have the choice of staying with them all the way (if they press on to the top of the mountain) or coming back with me from the temple if you’d had enough by then.

OK. Please call before 9 and let me know which option you have chosen. Do you have my cell number?

Will do, and yes, I have the number.

Pertinent comments on this issue are nearly too obvious to make. I hope this solution involves 1) retrieving all of the deleted hiking threads, and 2) not deleting anymore. Otherwise, it won’t be a “better” solution. As to their permanent home, doesn’t matter which forum, but I’d vote for simplicity. Better stop typing now before my truly annoyed interior betrays my cool and calm exterior. :fume:

Truant, thanks for all of your effort before and now to make this work.

The auto-prune function has been switched off, so there will no longer be any more deletions (I hope).
I spoke with Maoman today in person about this, and he is going to liaise with the tech guru, Goose Egg, to attempt to recover the thread. Will keep you all posted. Once recovered, the thread may not be in the form that it once was (it may come out as one huge text file) so please be patient. I will edit it as best as I can to retain all the good stuff.

Let me know if you need help editing the text.
Hi Everyone!

With most of my best friends in Taiwan frequently reading this thread, I think this is the appropriate place to advise my fellow Forumosans of the latest developments. After long consideration, I have decided to leave Taiwan and return to Europe. This is due to a combination of various factors, some are work-related, some are of a rather personal nature. I am planning to leave in the second half of December.
Hopefully, I will have the chance to see many of you again by then, nonetheless I’d like to say thanks to everyone for helping me have a great time here.

Cheers,

Balazs

PS: Muzha-Man - No, you can’t keep my sleeping bag
See you around Blazs. When you get incredibly rich from selling casinos etc you can come back and hike with us.

So how about you, Ironman? Are you back in Taiwan again? Are you going to come hiking with us at Wulai this weekend?

100% certain I am. I didn’t see this thread. I’ll have a look around.

I purchased a Timberland coat that fold into itself and becomes a small bag and a bum bag and bladder like a camelback and a backpack and thermal undergarments for those frozen hikes. 3 for 1 offer in Australia on thermals so I got them. 42 degrees celsius on the day I brought them.

Difficult hobby hiking. Hard to spend money on it.
