Weekdays, or even weekend mornings, I quite enjoy that waterfront.
But then once or twice a year someone will want to visit us on the weekend, and of course they want to walk along the river … ouch.

Ha, walk. Try cycling with a 6 years old.
Oh my. That is most certainly a bad idea.
This article concerns people in the U.S. but I think it applies to Taiwanese even more.
I’m wondering if this is all some big 4D chess move on the govts part.
They are generally scared to do anything that the people would oppose and jeopardize votes. So Immigration is a no no.
But what if they purposely wait until the country is up shits creek to the point where the public are in support of immigration? And then they can go ahead with it unopposed?
That’s not 4D chess. That’s just pandering to the crowd and understanding that the mob is fickle.
It can’t be chess without taking into account national security.
I think they’re just gonna wait and see what happens with Japan. Following the Japanese is easy and something the Taiwanese people can be led to do. And we’re seeing right now what is happening in Japan is a backlash so Taiwan can just jump straight to not having the foreigners and avoid the backlash
You’re right it’s all fun and games until the economy collapses or the Chinese just walk in
But not solving the problem until there is no other choice isn’t 4D chess that’s kicking the can
There’s no discussion at all about increasing permanent immigration as far as I can see.
Taiwan already was really slow to change the society to being child and friendly let alone immigrant friendly. They change very slowly.
They tend to just adjust existing policies, they almost never introduce brand new policies. This is partly or maybe even largely due to Taiwan’s international isolation little outside pressure. Compare to the EU where policy change can be pushed faster from outside…
Now the hope will probably be robots as if robots could make up for humans for a robust society.
It’s just gonna be more dogs and cats as the new wave of “children” in the future.
There’s just not gonna be any children, it’s sad. Kids are fun and bring joy to lives.
I dunno, those things cost money. And they are not convenient!
I foresee a newer trend: pushing around a tram with an AI powered pet / child / therapist / friend — perhaps all of the above depending on the machine settings! Now that is convenient and efficient!
/sarcasm off
Guy
If you check Taiwanese social medias there are a lot racist bots about the new wave of Indian immigrants. In this era of AI bots is harder to introduce immigration without losing in the next elections.
The disinformation campaigns going on now, intended to rile people up and sow division, are really something.
Social media in its current form(s) has turned out to be an utter disaster.
Guy
Yeah between the real racists, the Chinese bots and the ignorant it’s a mess.
Kmt stirring it up too.
People say less kids = less jobs for the future. But I say nay to the chicken littles, where there is money to spend on kids but no kids, there will still be pets, and a cascade of wonderful job opportunities like this.
I work in the pet care industry in the states and there is definitely money to be made pampering pets! Plenty of young people over here opt for dogs instead of kids and treat them like family.
That’s just even more great news for those of us who have children.
Why buy property in taiwan now when one can just wait it out…?
It’s a massive and growing industry in Taiwan .
They’re gonna get their wish…and soon no adults too
Yes that’s what I thought. Interestingly this was run by an older lady with a family, usually these places are run by child hating singles.
