Albiet rare, I have witnessed myself, real ice even in Pingtung. In fact, I have devoted actual excursions to go witness it down south. Nevermind the also rare, but real, hail storms even in the south. Time off work and everything. It does happen. During those years my photos were signed off to the people paying for the trips, so I don’t have many to share unfortunately. But you can Google say Da Wu Shan. Bei or Nan. Etc. Those are the southernmost 3km high mountains that actually get ice a couple times per decade . The further north one gets, the colder it gets. the elevation also matters. As does the insulation effect, valleys really matter! Effect… Affect? Too late in the night for grammar and spelling. But it gets cold as shit up there, even in Taiwan, sitting right on the line between temperate and tropical. Pretty amazing for anyone interested in biology.

For anyone that disagrees, check out the biodiversity and argue that angle. Taiwna has massive diversity, and this country is just a tiny island with a few outlying islands. Undisputable. Taiwan is a nation of endemism ( a very high % globally given the land mass….), precisely because it is so damn variable. Part of the treasure that is Taiwan. Despite politics, culture and everything g human….one cannot deny the scientific majesty that is Taiwan. Be it biological, geographic, geologic or just simply mind fuggingly amazing on a simple hike (the terrain here is extreme beyond whatever youtuber brags about). Truly a treasure trove for those interested in getting their mind blown.

Sorry. Forgot my point but the new point is exactly on point. Few can handle taiwans extremes, whilst still the laziest person can live 10km away from natural insanity. Part of the gem that is this country: Taiwan

Had to zip up my light jacket this morning! Lovely weather for getting out and about, let’s hope for many more months of it!

I also wore pants today. Us Canadians might have a different perspective than the local tropical fauna. But it is quite nice for the cold subspecies!

Freezing cold in Taipei today

It’s so cold that even the politicians keeps their hands in the own pockets

Awesome weather, just went for a lunch time walk in shorts and t-shirt, Hsin-Yi district Taipei. Not too cold and not too warm, perfect :ok_hand:

I concur! I really look forward to this time of year, my favorite for weather along with October/November for the mild weather then. Now we should be snuggling under blankets. It always makes me sleep better too. But there hasn’t been much of it this season.

Looks like we’ll get a dose of cool temps this weekend before rising back up mid-late next week then drop down again next weekend. Roller coaster weather in Taipei this season. By April we’ll be bathed in sweat again.

It’s not the curious romanization, by the way. It’s the fact that this may well be my least favourite neighborhood in which to walk in Taipei City. When I need to go there, I am in-and-out as fast as possible! I hate that area.

I am old and using the romanization from the 90’s

Take a stroll toward East from SKM’s, lots of pedestrian paths with trees and nice buildings
