Just bundled up for a coffee run. Deliciously cool temps today, maybe the coolest day of the year so far. Coupled with low humidity it’s nice to not work up a sweat on a 10 minute coffee run. We’re in a cool period that looks to gradually end as the mercury continues to rise to really warm temps at the beginning of the CNY holidays. I’m enjoying it while I can.
Lovely weather! Took the opportunity to crank up the kerosene heater this evening, snug as a bug in a rug! Weather is forecast to deteriorate to 26C next weekend though so enjoy it while you can!
With these plunging temperatures, I personal favour using a small modular reactor (an SMR) for this purpose. ![]()

You say you like the cold then turn on the heater?
Fixed that for you.
I’ll definitely enjoy that lovely 26°C with no need for any climate control.
Google weather is indicating a further deteoriation in the winter with 28 or even 29C predicted for Taipei at the weekend! Will we have no pleasant winter!? In anticipation of this terrible weather continuing I’ve booked a holiday to more pleasant northern climes next week although I see even there is recording +1C instead of the expected -20!! Will there be no escape!? How much further north must one go!?
High today here in Hokkaido where I’m at is -4. Low -8.
Nice!
Yes, looks like beach weather in Taipei this weekend. Fulong anyone?
However, by New Year’s Day temps drop down again to more familiar ones for this time of year almost through the rest of the holidays. Till then there’s ice skating at Taipei Arena, or brave the crowds at any Costco produce or dairy refrigerated rooms (I’ve done it in the summer). Failing that stream Ice Station Zebra on a loop like Howard Hughes used to do in his hotel suite in Vegas, or maybe Dr. Zhivago and crank up the a/c. ![]()
Taiwan or further afield like Japan? Tempting.
Closed for the winter (probably)!
Further afield, north east China, maybe chase the good weather up to Russia!
I heard the call of the nighthawk, a harbinger of warmer weather ![]()
Hmmm, then stream The Day the Sun Turned Cold for, as one reviewer put it, “A few glimpses at smoky cold North China country life.” Then Dr. Zhivago for icy Russia.
I’ve had a hankering to visit Vladivostok after hearing Connery pronounce it on the big screen, temps might be too mild though and they might not be that welcoming to visitors!
Beware you don’t get conscripted and sent off to fight in Ukraine!

Maybes Tiki bar will be open xx
I’m uncertain if those are clouds or some of the “air very poor” particles obscuring this view. ![]()
