Taiwanese food is great!

Chocobear food truck burger in Taitung. Very tasty!terrible picture but I ate it before I could get a better shot .

Off chance. There was a buffet like that video we used to go to in Kaohsoung and Taipei. They may have had a second one known. I want to say the name was Joyaga, but my memory is fuzzy. They had a cool layout, spiral stairs to a second floor and all the fancy stuff. I want to say mid 2000’s? Anyone know the place, and if they are still open? Might be a long shot.Less expensive but in the same realm.

Whoever opened that jamón did an awfully chabuduo job. Probably the same guy in the picture, who’s going to loose a finger very soon.

I think he is in the wrong Taiwanese food thread, that is a shocker.

Wait, is that lettuce on a chocolate flavoured bun?

Looks decent enough, these places never seem to have good bread . Good recommend though.

You might be disappointed on the bread, truth be told. It’s not horrible, but harder than many taiwanese like. Which is what I like. But ya, the bread certainly wasn’t special. The other ingredients made up for it though in my opinion.

For sure a femine vibe to the atmosphere. Good to take a female heavy family group, dates, kids that dont need toys etc. I was in an all woman group, spent 3 hours there despite their 2 hour like haha. They have an outdoor area too, fairly garden like. A view over the river etc. Overall a pretty good chill place to have good food and escape the mid day heat!

Price range around 400

His place was in Chiayi City, right close to the train station. It was VERY busy on a Wednesday evening. Literally packed and noisy. The staff, despite new people streaming in were VERY polite, smiled and professional. I recommend them just based on that. The service was the perfect balance of respect, not asking too kuch and being as helpful as possible with any question.

The food, I’d give it a 6/10. For my scale, that’s good. Not amazing, but will certainly go back again when in chiayi, especially if not driving and taking the train!

Wife had the mutton Curry. The only complaint was the meat used a lot of large fat bits, which our family really dislikes. But if people like the large fa globs and the heavy creamy texture it imparts, then it will be great

I had the veggie one with cheese. K something paneer. It was very good.

Garlic Naan. Good.

I’ll be honest. I deducted points for no palak paneer (my go to everytime) and for the menu showing “corn palak”. Don’t even know what it is, but corn seems like a Taiwan addition to so many foreign foods I automatically deduct a point out of personal bias hahaha

But in all seriousness. The only negative standouts were the fatty mutton and they were both quite onion heavy. I love onion, but if you don’t this will be tough.

This*

This ?

Yes, this*. I also got the menu picture upside down. Lol. Apologies all around, but still dont give enough of a f*ck. Yall get the point… :hugs:

I don’t do slavery/seafood, fish fed duck, or fungus that isn’t fun. Can try a 400NT Taiwanese sandwich, I guess, but not much else on the menu there. For that price, it would have to be better than average for a return trip.

Do tell, what do you mean? I am only going off of taste for the 2 sandwiches and the mushroom dish. But if they are slavery aligned, please don’t hold back. We aren’t interested in supporting shit food, even if it tastes great. You got here for the sandwich. Not the steak. I presume, never tried it. But costs are real and taiwan isn’t a beef steak country. Shop smarter if that’s the issue.

400 is cheap, at least in comparison to the ever so compared north American fare. So that part doesn’t compute :hugs: mcdonalds in bit our home country is more expensive. And infinitely worse. Just to name an easy example.

Is it seafood? I’ve posted plenty about the seafood industry generally, and Taiwan specifically

Not yet, but I’ve saved it to check out. So rare that a specific restaurant is suggested

I rarely get steak when I eat out. Have enjoyed Jacks Bros in KHH

A bit above average IME

A meal at McDonald’s in Canada was not more than 400NT when I last ate there. Like half that (same cost as here)

But they’re open

Just checked Photic Zone hours. Open on Mondays and in the afternoons, wow. But weekdays only open to 6pm. I guess people with jobs aren’t their target market. Weekends are better, I’ll let you know how it is if I’m ever looking for a weekend meal in that area

But they’re open

I don’t want to assume, what do you mean about the seafood aspect of this restsraunt. We only tried veggie dishes and the Cuban (which is pork based). All were very good.

That said, the seafood industry here, albiet quite robust has serious issues. I got no problems going there! There’s some true bullshit going on. But I just don’t eat seafood. Here or elsewhere . For precisely those reasons. But just on hew and tongue feel, taiwans seafood is still world class.

That said, I don’t go out in Taiwan, coming from coastal Canada, hunting the salmon will be better from fresh caught down bythe bridge like i grew up eating. Much like I don’t assume the soft shell turtle in canada will be as good as the soft shells I can get down by the bridge in Taiwan.

Every restaurant, the thing is the seafood industry

Bon appetit?:

So, I said, I don’t

Totally agree on the seafood aspect. It is yummy and world class in Taiwan. The problem is we view this as classy, it is not. It’s an embarrassment in terms of both ethics towards other species (even our own species), as well as a full on assault on the environment. In this regard, I am fully on board with shitting on taiwanels quality of food. As it is undeniably shit. However, we must also be honest and accept foreign seafood is also quite horrible. So it depends on the metric. As far as fresh, availailbiluty, logistics, taste etc. Taiwna far exceeds most other countries. On ethics, it is a fucking travesty
