That’s pretty fair. I get yourbpoint in not supportingthe seafood industry. Quite an ethical stance in my opinion.
Now I guess I need to come clean, I didn’t even notice the seafood part of their menu. We went (me, wife, wife’s mother) and focused on the vegetarian stuff. Plus the Cuban. I can only comment on those, they were all very good. Didn’t really think about if they have seafood or not. I must have read it. Butbjustblike mcdonalds, I just pass over the obvious trash and just try something potentially good. A habit I find beneficial in restaraunts anywhere.
Now, I am left curious what their seafood fare is…?
That said, if the seafood industry disturbs you, I hope to fuck you don’t eat pork and chicken either
At least so far as aquaculture farming (note the comparison is farming, not wild raping or resources), yes. Chicken farming had loads of issues from “enslaved” foreigners, to environmental issues, to air issues, to political corruption. As does pork. Even more for pork as the US not so long ago told Taiwan to fuck right off in regards to self defense and weapons sales directly aimed Dat a specific pork growh hormone that Taiwan doesn’t want. What’s funny, outside of the US being total fucking wankers, is that taiwnese feed producers also used this same chemical and just got fines. President Tsai eventually gave upbthai fight and we got weapons immediately after. But how fucking retarded is this whole food thing? I know many feed producers as well as pork producers that use this hormone and just accept the relatively weak fine.
So, in short, yes. The land animal massacre is just as bad as the aquatic ones
Factory food, 711 and mcdonalds type stuff isn’t actually taiwanse food (cuisine). Ots sold here, thats about it. I assume that is his piont. If so, he is correct. Its liek saying watermelon slurpees at 711 incanada is canadian food. Its sold there, butbthats not the real food from there. If anything, that trailer park level crap people just buy.
Taiwanese cuisine is fantastic. Getting good food in Taiwan is expensive. These are 2 points people need to just understand and accept. They are also easily experienced. It’s easier to be rich in taiwna than say Canada. It’s also easier to eat garbage or eat amazing. The price vs income is way higher in Taiwan. I feel this is likely what many foreigners complain about. Good food is easily found now. So is bad food, obviously.
Some links? Human slavery, no quotes necessary, is a well documented aspect of the global seafood industry
Yeah, not what I’m talking about, either
You keep saying this, and I keep asking what restaurants you recommend
I talk about the average place, basically most of the places i have been and food i have been given.
I don’t consider 711 or mcdonalds to be taiwanese food (although the locals choose that food a lot). I eat at these places more than i want to because they are at least open and consistent. As ive said before, other places I’ve ordered what is absolutely Taiwanese food and just walked out after paying for a bite of garbage on a plate.
The average is garbage, at least in my experience in Kaohsiung. So much so I choose mcdonalds rather than take a chance on more slop that i wouldn’t feel happy feeding to a dog
I work with many land based meat farms -mostly Hickenlooper and pork, but also aquaculture, duck and goose- also work a lot in rock industry, loging, vegetable farms etc and have many close friends in oher industries like textiles, constructuin etc… The runaway migrant thing is well known. Its not even worth debating. The seafood thing is well known because of great organizations like Greenpeace and similar NGOs that bring this to our attention. Sadly they get a bad wrap, despite doing fantastic work for human rights. People like to shit on them a lot, despite being the ones that end up making our food sager, air cleaner workig rights better etc. Its wild to me.
Runaway migrants doesn’t need links in the same way seafood issues don’t, it’s already common knowledge. Google searches come up with loads. Kind of a great thing about Taiwan. Even though cover ups do happen, generally speaking we can have a public platform, so many leaks happen
I cannot post photos myself because I am actually involved with the government in catching fucktard companies abusing people. Have been for about 15 years. I legally am not allowed to post details and pictures, but they release things when the investigation is at a certain point. Same goes for loads of other people doing the same as me. There are enough media around i think you can get the picture. Be thankful for Greenpeace. We need more like them, as they are big enough to be protected, plus they have he balls and finances to back it all up. Sadly, they focus more on either oceans in Taiwan or pollution. I should donate more.
As for you wanting links to good food, this whole thread is about discussing this. I have given you a few already. Considering I only go in to downtown kaohsiung every few months and show a good place each time, is kind of telling how good thebcit has become. I have had some duds for sure, but lots of good food around now . If it’s the price and value that is the issue. I agree. Stick to that point, it’s not the food is garbage But if you never find even 1 decent meal ever in taiwans seconds biggest city, and fastest growing area, I think you just might not personally like the food preferremces here or you’re not going out enough. Most of us eat like kings in kaohsiung :)even on cheapo diet. There are lunch Bo joints in your city thatchave like 80 varieties of FRESHLY cooked vegetables, plus whatever meats. And cheap. That alone is worthy of praise, just logistically. Maybe the sauce isn’t to everyone’s fancy, but hats why they have 80, variety!
1 in KHH, heavy on the slavery. I said I’d try the 400NT Taiwanese sandwich. If that’s your best shot, challenge accepted. But not on a weekday.
Overcooked vegetables and slivers of barely meat, tastes like little or nothing. I’ve tried a few of these places, including 4 at the university where i have lunch a few times a week. I guess my bias is informed by having lived in othet asian countries. If I’d been only here the last 30 years I wouldn’t have much perspective
As I said, the average is low. Yaletown is your example of Taiwanese cuisine? There are like 5 restaurants i actually go to repeatedly and that’s one (but their hours suck, too).
5 out of 500 that I willingly go back to. Compared to China and Thailand where almost every random place was good. What’s so galling about it is just the idea that the average here is great. It aint
That was my first “damn, that’s good” food in Taiwan. I went to a tiny place near Shida, and had that with beer. I still like it but not like when I first was eating it.
(Now I’ve got to go back and read through 400+ unread posts. Or maybe not.)
No, because you guys keep talking trash about taiwanese food that isn’t taiwnaese cuisine. I’m keeping it consistent. You can’t cherry pick like that, gove credi where it’s due, thungs will taste better
If we talk about actual taiwnaese cuisine, I doubt many here eats it more than maybe once or twice a month.
Taiwanese cuisine is REALLY Great! Taiwan also has good food that isn’t Taiwanese, eg Yaletown.
Moat of the shit food here is western or cheap as chips
I have Suggested lots of good ones on this site, as have others also loads of cuisines that are good, just need to find a good place that cooks it. Taianaese cuisine is pretty damn good. Of the foreign cuisines, I also quite like hakka and vietnamese (though they go way too heavy on msg and sugar in many places, thankfully many are reliant on dipping sauce, which makes the actual dish more plain and easily adjusted for any customer. Chinese styled food in taiwannis like this as well, to an extent.
My wife has been nagging me to make a list of good places to eat for wen we have business meetings to show customers, suppliers out of town guests etc.
I’m going to do an easy one and post it here. Wih other posters suggestions.
I remain diligent to get you to smile whilst inside a restaraunt in Taiwan. You picky bugger!
In the meantime. Spicy hotpot near Central Park. I forgot he name, but the English is Sichuan hotpot i think. It’s between the family mart and that super temple looking restaraunt. Very good hot pot.
Surely, you’ve had at least ONE good hot pot in taiwan? If not, I think the problem might be you hahahaha
I can eat it, but honestly, if I never had hot pot again, I would be fine with that (I wouldn’t crave it). I like (or can deal with) the set menu places, and can’t stand the all you can eat hot pot restaurants.
It’s cool not to like something. It’s different to call it bad. I hate seafood, but I can’t shit on all of it because I don’t like, I am very aware here are excellent seafood places. Like hotpot, Taiwan does both quite well I’m not a huge fan of either to be honest. But some ofthe best I’ve had of both have been here in taiwan.
