I have a Masters of Teaching from Australian University. Have taught Physical Education and Special Education for five years. There is a 6 month gap between Australian school start and Northern hempisphere school start. This is a stop over

Ahhh… one of those Taiwanese Engrish.
APP = application (mobile phone)
DM = brochure
Offside = out of bounds (football)
Seven = 7-eleven or any convenient stores in general
Me love you long time = ehhhh ?

We use “offside” in Spanish too, I didn’t know it was incorrect.

For getting a bank account I recommend either CTBC or the Chunghwa Post Office bank. You need to get a stamp called a chop stamp to sign the documents, kind of like a hanko stamp in Japan.

A bit off topic but what did you do for government work in Taiwan? I’m a poli-sci grad and am curious about working for a government/political job

You don’t need a chop at CTBC, unless it’s a branch-specific thing for Taoyuan.

I wasn’t asked for a chop to open a Post Office account, either.

I don’t live in Taoyuan, but probably your best option is going to Yingge. From there you have access to the net of riverside paths of New Taipei and Taipei. You can cycle to Bali, Tamsui, Nangang (and beyond), Taipei Zoo, Xindian, etc.

Although the best cycling in Taiwan is in the many mountain roads. Most of them very quiet.
