The media in Taiwan hasn’t really taken notice (at least not in Wang Chien-ming proportions), but I think Yani Tseng is really worth some mentioning. Second major win, wow! That’s beating the best players in the world for the second time in three years. :bravo:

She will never be a beauty queen, but she really plays some good golf and keeps her composure under pressure.
Yesterday was the first time ever I watched women’s golf and it was quite entertaining. Didn’t expect to see a third of the players on the leaderboard being Korean or Korean-American.

GOLD COAST – Taiwan’s Yani Tseng took over the No. 1 ranking in women’s golf after shooting a final-round 68 to win the Australian Ladies Masters by four strokes yesterday, her second victory in a row Down Under.

Following up her seven-shot victory in defence of the Australian Open title last week, the 22-year-old Tseng’s tournament total at Royal Pines was just two shots more than Webb’s tournament record of 262.
Tseng’s lead was reduced to just two over Lewis and Campbell after a bogey at the par-four seventh. But Tseng birdied the par-five ninth and added another at the par-five 12th to all but put the tournament away.
“It feels good winning, it feels good getting to No.1, she said. “I feel very appreciative about everything and all the people that have been helping me through those years.”
Tseng first played at Royal Pines as an invited amateur six years ago.
“I’m very appreciative of the opportunity to play this tournament … The first time I came here, I told all my friends, and said one day, I want my picture on Champions Drive, one day I’m going to have a picture up there.”
Tseng said she hopes her win will make big news in Taiwan.
“Overwhelmed,” she said. “I hope that I’m on the first page of the news! I think it will be huge.”
[Another good result]Cecilia Cho, a 16-year-old amateur from New Zealand, had a 67 Sunday to finish in a tie for fifth.
“I bombed a few shots today really going for them,” Cho said. “I just got a bit too confident. But my chipping was really good today and every time I missed a green, I got up-and-down which was great.”
She was the leading amateur by eight shots.

Make it four wins in less than two months. She’s for real. Hope she can cope with Taiwan’s rising media attention. That’ll be tougher than beating Michelle Wie.
She’s far too ai-guo to be given much media attention. Now that she’s a bona fide “glory of Taiwan” of course, that will change.

Just saw the end of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, first major of the year. Yani started leading by two shots but scored a somewhat disappointing 74. Her playing partner, Stacy Lewis, played flawless and won by three shots in the end. Anyway, overall a great showing by Taiwan’s star player. She’s no doubt deserving of the number one ranking right now.
Got up at 6 am today to see Yani Tseng win her forth major in impressive fashion. She’s turning into the women’s version of Tiger, but without the swearing and the “leave me the f*** alone” stare. How can someone be so good (at sports) and be from Taiwan, I always wonder. Anyway, well done! She simply left all of her wannabe competitors in the dust.

Because Taiwanese athletes usually suck big time when it comes to other sports than taekwondo and women’s weightlifting. And yes, they suck at Baseball too.

Spoken like a true German.
Nothing to do with being German. But of course, if you come from a country with frequent success in the world of sports, it’s not easy to root for athletes of your second-home country who are usually not competing for the top prize. Yani Tseng is so refreshingly different in that respect. She has a chance to win, every time, and not in a niche sport with a limited number of competitors, but in a sport that is played around the world with a long history and huge sums of prize money at stake.

This weekend it’s the US Open and Taiwanese ace Yani Tseng is struggling a bit (7 strokes behind the leader on day 2). Bad weather has disrupted play, and I think because of it the leaderboard is going to see some big changes at the top over the next two days.
Nope. I am, too. 
Final day of the British Open. Yani Tseng in second place two shots behind a little known German player and four clear of her main rivals. I like her chances of winning a fith major overall and the forth in just eight tries. She plays like Tiger Woods in his best days right now, making all the other players look like pretenders.
Nope. She didn’t win.

Yeah, Caroline and Yani haven’t even teed off yet… don’t make a “Dewey-Truman” mistake…
