This is a serious question for those who still support Trump: can you think of anything that might make you lose faith in him? It’s obviously too late to say declaring a no-fly zone over Venezuela, threatening to invade a NATO member, calling Marjorie Taylor Greene “far left” and various other things that he’s already done. If those were your red lines, you wouldn’t still be a supporter (or you would have chosen some new lines, at least).
So what are your red lines now? Try this thought experiment and, if you feel you’re in a safe enough space here, post the result. I’ll give a few suggestions.
I might lose faith in Trump if he came out as a furry.
I might lose faith in Trump if the claim that he had had sexual relations with “Bubba” turned out to be true. (Being freaky is one thing, but being a Clintonista is too much!)
I might lose faith in Trump if he took refuge in the Russian embassy (or any embassy, or any foreign country).
I might lose faith in Trump if he literally said war is peace.
I might lose faith in Trump if he said something like my supporters are so gullible, they’re falling for the old Iraq WMD trick with this Venezuela narco stuff.
I might lose faith in Trump if he offered a (literal) neo-Nazi or KKK member a cabinet or court position.
I might lose faith in Trump if he offered Biden, AOC, Stein, Mamdani, or one of his other major enemies a cabinet or court position.
I might lose faith in Trump if he pardoned Ghislaine Maxwell.
I might lose faith in Trump if he literally tore up a copy of the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.
I might lose faith in Trump if he ordered the arrest of Representatives or Senators who refused to vote as instructed.
I might lose faith in Trump if he clearly defied a Supreme Court order.
I might lose faith in Trump if he ordered lethal force against an anti-Trump demonstration on American soil.
I don’t know why anyone would have faith in any politician. They’re all going to fuck you. The trick is picking the one who’s going to fuck you the least.
I don’t think anyone here will admit to it at this point, best you’re gonna get is that they admit to supporting specific policies (which is otherwise a sensible position)
But the same people who railed against Biden won’t complain about Trump on the same issues.
I find it hilarious that some people actually still think that Trump is going to “fuck them the least” at this point, after all he has said, done, and lied about.
Nah this one had some (actual) brain cells behind it. Palpable difference.
Yeah that was a great quip by Anderson Cooper. Really prescient.
I have long said that with some Trumpers…
If Ol’ Donald took a steaming dump on their front porch, they would just slavishly thank him for the premium-grade fertilizer, while admiring his boldness.
Can you quote what I wrote that indicates that’s what I said.
If you want to ask me, just ask.
Do I still support Trump?
The same as before but to a lesser degree. Trump 2 is no doubt more effective and has consolidated power better. But he built his comeback with a coalition of republicans I do not like but now he needs. I don’t like his ties to Israel either.
The republicans look like this to me now. Boomers holding on while the younger ones wants something different. But boomers are Trumps donors.
Trumpolini is a disaster for the nation. Fortunately he’ll be a lame duck by this time next year so damage control can begin then - if the nation survives that long.
