The AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) thread

We only need to back our wall with a hundred divisions of East German border guards, minefields, and interlocking machine gun positions. Then it will work great

Are you advocating zero border control?
Upset by crying baby pics?
Indifferent to whom may cross illegally?
not sure where you stand on this ? Really.

I don’t see why you would jump to any of those conclusions. What I am noting is that a wall backed by an integrated system of ample numbers of armed guards and a variety of equipment designed to ensure that no one could cross alive is not something that is going to occur along the entirety of the US-Mexico border, or even any portion of it, and therefore they are not equivalent (something which even the most cursory consideration should reveal)

Ahh…then we agree…edit Judas basta*rd haha , i did that after the like :joy: love you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

This is a start, but you need to go further before you can join us in the real world. Admit that everything AOC says complete and utter garbage.

Also that Trump is getting tangible results on the economy and foreign policy where others have failed.

I’ll bet you’d jump for joy if AOC invited you out to dance with her, admit it

She is great with social media and political communication but has no intellectual curiosity to care about facts or study proposals.

She graduated cum laude in economics from a Tier 1 university, yet she doesn’t know how unemployment rate is calculated, doesn’t care. She doesn’t even know how tax rebates for Amazon in NYC works. Every thing she says about economics is wrong.

She ignored the fact that majority of blacks and Latinos in Queens supported Amazon’s HQ2. For her, the it was a “grassroots victory” to push Amazon to leave, regardless of what the cause is.

She is just a better looking version of Trump.

Finally, some wisdom in this thread. I would go further and say that the two sides that oppose AOC and Trump also have much in common. Approach, levels of hatred, immediate dislike of anything put forth out of spite, etc. Welcome to the jungle (shanananana-knees-knees).

She’s smarter than you, more accomplished than you will ever be, and perhaps like Trump understands that hyperbole might motivate a base of voters to support her.

Do you really think she doesn’t understand economics? Because if you debated her live and I had put 1000 bucks on who won the debate, I know who I’m betting on and it ain’t you.

Just say it out loud: You’re jealous because she’s attained a level of political power that you never will in this or ten lifetimes.

And she’s different than Trump because the policies she’s advocating for help a lot of people, not just herself.

Dumb comparison from an envious hater. Par for the course.

You think you know more, run for office and knock her out of there. If she’s that dumb it should be easy for you.

If I were drinking water when I read this during our meeting break, I would have made a big mess. Haha, “knees, knees.”

Trump’s advocates sure have a gift for the strawman argument don’t they?

And here comes strawman

Aaaand here’s more identity politics

:joy::rofl:
She knows more about economics than me? When she was asked about the unemployment rate being low, she said it’s because people are working two jobs.

If you work two jobs, you’re employed, that’s it. It doesn’t count as two.

A lot of people who graduate in economics don’t care. Alan Greenspan said that of George HW Bush.

She’s more accomplished than me? My first job out of college was better than bartender.

Why should I run for office? Politicians are idiots.

I have no idea about the context of such an answer, but perhaps she meant that while, yes, people are employed, they are having to work two low-paying jobs to make ends meet. Again, I have no idea about the context of such a statement by her and even if she made it.

Here is the context: https://slate.com/business/2018/07/alexandria-ocasio-cortezs-gaffe-about-the-unemployment-rate-and-working-two-jobs-is-no-big-deal.html

The goal of the democratic party should be to expand opportunity, not this socialist communist crap thatll make everyone broke.

She’s helping Trump get elected again by saying stuff like this because it shows her lack of understanding. If you don’t remember what happened when the Berlin wall was torn down, your must be very young and didn’t attend history class. Mexico is not part of the United States.

I think it’s still open to interpretation what she meant. After all, she followed the first statement with this: “Unemployment is low because people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their kids.” (Obviously, unemployment rate doesn’t decrease in proportion with the number of hours a population works.) If she meant what her critics thought she meant, though, then that ain’t good at all!

Margaret Hoover : The economy is going pretty strong. There’s roughly 3.9 percent unemployment, 4 percent unemployment. Do you think that capitalism has failed to deliver for working-class Americans or is no longer the best vehicle for working-class Americans?

Ocasio-Cortez: Well, I think that the numbers you just talked about is part of the problem, right? Because we look at these figures and say unemployment is low, everything is fine, right? Well, unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs. Unemployment is low because people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their kids. And so, I do think that right now, we do have this no-holds-barred, wild-west hypercapitalism; what that means is profit at any cost. Capitalism has not always existed in the world, and it will not always exist in the world.
