The British Royal Family thread

Fify. :slightly_smiling_face:

It takes a while, but eventually it works – people forget or just stop caring.

People who grew up knowing about Harry et al. won’t suddenly forget, just like Rama X didn’t forget that his sister, though officially stripped of her royal title by their father, is still de facto a princess, hence his ban on her running for office (because the royal family isn’t supposed to be involved in politics, of course).

But what of H&M’s descendants?

When they dug up Ricky #3 from that parking lot in 2012, the curved spine was a clue, but they didn’t feel confident saying it was really his skeleton until they tracked down a 16th generation great niece in the middle of nowhere and got a DNA match (actually from a 17th generation great nephew because the great niece was already dead). I’m willing to bet those great nieces & nephews weren’t recognized by many people outside of genealogical circles.

No-one in rural Cornwall cares if you’re famous, if the 60 Minutes interview with John le CarrĂ© about two years ago is to be believed.

Personally I have no dog in this race. Especially since I really don’t understand how that family operates. Are they the world’s richest welfare family? Or a tourist trap?

But I can see a bit of why Markle would want to leave after looking Piers’ Twitter account. Oh man, the vitriol and assumptions. Yet, I don’t feel too sorry for her. IMHO it might be love however I do think she is a master social climber, which is truly a skill set of it’s own.

Did you read the daily mail frontpage hatchet job he did on her ?

I’ve heard some British people describe the royal family as “very expensive pets.”

Can’t say I quite understand.

Nope. Cosmopolitan and all the other ladies’ rags have been pumping out so much I’m tired of it.

One funny thing I did read was a comment on Twitter about how all of Britain’s relationships eventually break up them. The US, India, etc. Queen Liz might be the real issue here :joy::joy:

Hey, didn’t you hear the Donald? That relationship is the highest degree of special! :rainbow:

Seems like that felt hard done by.

Some of these really are just absurd. Can’t say I blame her for leaving as she could truly do nothing right in their eyes.

The general feeling is Harry wanted out and Meghan provided him the support to do it.

Wrong way around the Royal family consider everyone else as proles or plebs.

They supposedly much prefer the working classes to the upper middle class, if that counts for anything. The upper class can’t stand Royalty.

True. The middle class are of course too uppity for them.

of course they don’t want harry to leave. kick harry out first then its going to be them next! they are shitting their gold pants right now.

The media has him framed as pussy-whipped and doing only as Meghan wishes, of course.

I think they meant it more as in like having this thing they have to pay out the ass to keep alive. Taxes or something. I honestly don’t know, I don’t have a clue how the royals get their money.

Is that due to the fact the upper class are in a “you almost had it” situation.

Taxes and trust funds it seems. Charles gets his from the Corwall trust as do the boys. The boys got two trusts from their mom and great-grandmother. Then there’s another trust that the Queen doles out to all working members.

They’re never going to win and I think they’ve long since realised this. Why bother trying when whatever you do you’re the bad guy?

If they’re working they don’t need a trust. Just pay them an hourly rate.
