Have you found out what their plans are? The old Danshui branch (near Zhuwei Station) shut down; and then a couple years later a different & better one opened up, in the New Danshui Town or whatever it’s called area. So there’s hope, even if those years without a nearby Carrefour were annoying.
Yes, I truly doubt that they plan to simply leave the lucrative market in that part of Hsinchu . . .

I don’t recall ever seeing anything else at the one in Tamsui. It has a bakery but it’s always out of everything and if you want the loaves sliced, it’s a huge pain. I started getting my bread at FamilyMart and haven’t looked back
A short term stop gap—maybe possible. But for your long-term health, you might want to look further into what is in that convenience store “bread” . . .

this has happened to me on a number of occasions. C4 seems to just stop selling things. I’ve attributed it to living on an island and politics but, there’s quite a few things that I can’t get there anymore
They used to carry more foreign stuff too, at least the Tienmu store did.
Now I only go there to get close out stuff, like when a season is ending and they are trying to clear their inventory out.
But you can’t run a business this way.
yeah I kinda also wonder if Im an outlier and as a big company, it gets rid of stuff nobody buys, haha
It just seems like the way consumer culture works here—stuff comes in, stays a while (briefly), disappears . . . new stuff comes in . . . the circle of disappearance goes round and round.

It’s exactly how retail works everywhere. It does the business ZERO good to hold onto inventory.
So they make sure stuff just go go go.
I always wondered how it worked.
If you looked at the layout of a typical hypermarket, there’s very little storage space in proportion to their sales floor. The whole doctrine is get stuff to the floor, get it sold as quickly as possible, and if it lingers around, discount it to make it move so they can make space for more lucrative items. Holding onto inventory, especially food/frozen food, costs money.
Now I know.
In 2020, the county government was able to retake the rights to the building and the land after winning a law suit. So the county government is Hsinchu Carrefour’s landlord. I feel like it might be the county government who wanted Carrefour gone, instead of Carrefour choosing to leave the market.
My point is that they will return by finding a different, and likely larger cleaner better space.
In the meantime, it will suck, as @lostinasia mentioned.

I hope so, but it’s not hopeful.
Today is the last time I’ll ever step into Hsinchu Carrefour. Many aisles are empty, even half of the frozen foods section is not in operation.
Hsinchu has lost an A-mart, an RT-mart in the past 2 years too.
By the way, despite the shelves being pretty empty, there were lots of shoppers. It even took 30 minutes to drive out of the parking lot. I guess I am not the only one sad to see Carrefour go.
Their new landlord could’ve overplayed their hand with the rent. How big is this supermarket? Guessing they’ve got somewhere else scoped.
