The French Carrefour company returned about 100m NTD to the Uni-president who bought off their shares in Taiwan’s Carrefour. One of the possible reasons listed for returning a portion of the money is that since the deal 5 Mega Carrefours and 12 small supermarket stores have closed.
So this article offers a possible reason for the county government to remove all the current tenants. The county government just held the first round of lease bidding and no one wanted to rent the place, since the building has always been criticized as poorly built and looks super old, and yet the county government set the rent at 4.6m NTD per month.
What if the county government wanted redevelop the place, and is just going through the steps to show people that no company wants to rent the spaces?
My local carrefour feels like it might go away. Coffee shelves barren for weeks. Sliced bread is scarce., possibly baguettes too, which are trucked in par-baked and finished in house. feels like something going on…
5 big carrefours closing down is a big deal. Those are a lifeline. A real shopping experience in the sea of PXshite and small carrefours with different products in every bloody store.
Inquiry: I’ve got a Carrefour membership or app or whatever it should be called. Until recently I was always accumulating points to get a small discount used for later purchases (not much, maybe 1%?): at the till, they’d ask me if I wanted to take the $13 or whatever off. Now that doesn’t seem to be happening anymore.
Does anyone know if they’ve changed the system? Is there now a different membership tier I need to get that discount? And if so, is it worth it?
I think it’s way less? I never bothered registering because it seemed like too much hassle, but I still scan my ex-girlfriend’s barcode so she gets the points and I had in my head that it’s 0.3% or something.
Judging from this page, it’s 1 point earned per dollar spent then 300 points equals 1 dollar reimbursed, so that would indeed be one-third of a percent.
Hm, yup, looking back at expenses earlier in the year that seems about right. Like I said, not much! It’s something however, and it seems to have disappeared for me.
Maybe this is part of that dumb APRC thing and needing to re-register earlier this year, but I’m not sure of the timeline.
My reasons for registering are lost in the mists of time. But at this point I do (usually) like paying with the app, despite the app designers’ periodic efforts to sabotage it. “Yes, person in line who just wants to pay, you definitely want to see an ad before we get you to your QR code! What, and now you’re annoyed that the X to cancel the ad is hard to find? Don’t you understand we’re trying to streamline our service? Please ignore the scowls from those behind you in the queue.”
Does Carrefour have member prices? I think I’m in the habit of joining these things because one of my main grocery stores in Canada (Save-On Foods) has significantly lower prices if you’re a member. That gave me the bad habit long ago.
I was going to say that we all find our own useful heuristic techniques, sometimes in surprising places. Then I looked in a dictionary and I’m no longer convinced that heuristic is the right word. Oh well. I’ll still use it.
It can be like a rule of thumb that helps make a decision, I think you’re using it correctly
For example, if I know nothing about something, but I know someone else is right about pretty much anything, I can use my knowledge of their knowledge as a heuristic.
It also works when someone is consistently wrong about pretty much anything, FWIW
