The clock on the wall sez 4:20

Oh yes, a bit of ‘reefer’ can be a gateway drug. My friend at uni used to ‘toke’ a lot, but when he couldn’t get any he’d need a substitute. First it was the occasional clove cigarette, then some ciggies with drinks, and pretty soon he was a pack-a-day nicotine man. Now there’s a serious drug.

Ok, now I’ve said my bit, it’s your turn now.

I don’t want to hear about your personal experience. Frankly, if you are a user, I am not interested in your experience. Show, with evidence to back it up, how marijuana is safe. Not showing that it is safer than other drugs or alcohol, but how it is in fact safe.

Ok, go.
“Safe”? 100%? Shit, man, crossing the street around here isn’t safe. Are you going to ban that too?

The real question to ask is, is smoking pot a major health hazard. And the evidence has pretty much shown that it isn’t. It’s less risky, and less addictive, than tobacco. It’s less damaging than alcohol by far.
Did I say ban it? NO. All I said was that there is plenty wrong with it, that is all. Did I say that there is nothing right about it? NO, I didn’t say that either. To think that there is nothing wrong with it at all is idiotic and waaaaaay too simplistic, one should understand the pro’s and con’s, thereby being able to make an intelligent decision to use or not to use. Is there a problem with that?

It works the other way, too, up to a point.
Tobacco was my gateway drug to cannabis when I was a teenager. I would never have considered trying cannabis if I hadn’t become a regular smoker. However - would I have tried harder drugs like cocaine or speed if they had been made available to me? Never in a million years.

Therefore, when you’re talking about gateway drugs, personality type and attitude are important factors that have to be taken into consideration.

Whats wrong with pot? Whats right with reality?
Smoke some gear, see the universe in a grain of sand.
Only then will you know…

Bob said smoking affects the part of the brain that says if you should give up or not. Good point.

Weed is from the earth. God put it here, for you and for me. Take advantage man, take advantage.

You obviously havn’t dealt with a vast number of drug users.
From my experiences, you are pretty wide of the mark.

I ate a cake once. It wasn’t my mums usual Sunday flan. This was a special cake.
My friend lives on a farm. His friend bought around a cake made from cannabis. Now myself and my non-cake bearing friend were blissfully unaware of the contents of the cake and once offered to us, we munched innocently away.
The night was drawing in and the cake tasted funny. I was laughing at pigeons. My friend was laughing at me laughing and everything was hillarious. Upon finishing the offending pastry the world just wasn’t the same.
There are wells on the farm, and they are uncovered, their entrance being level with the ground. I knew the positions of all the wells on the farm.
I had to “take a leak” so I went into the trees on the edge of the farm to complete the act. By now it was dark and the only light was provided by the moon. I suddenly found I was unable to stand up and I had to crawl to get around.
I crawled and infront of me appeared a well. I turned around a full 180 and moved forward. There was the well again. I turned around 90 degrees this time. Again, there was the well.
It seemed the more I moved away from the well, the closer it became until I was directly beside it. I tried rolling away from the well but I was dangerously close to it now. I was petrified.
In the end, I just had lie down and not move. I went into a very colourful daze and sleep. In the morning, I found myself lying on the rim of the well. I crawled like a soldier away from the well and into my friends bedroom where I watched a program about politics on a TV which wasn’t switched on.
I had nightmares about wells for the next two weeks.

I had eaten a cannabis cake. It turned out I had injested alot of cannabis. The cake wasn’t laced with other “harder” drugs, it was just cannabis.

While the cannabis may not be harmful to my health, wells are. I hadn’t a clue what I was doing that night. The suggestion that people can operate heavy machinery or drive a car whilst under the influence of cannabis I find a little too hard to believe.

That’s all well and good…ar ar…

However, you consumed it unknowingly…that’s very bad pot-iquette…same thing happened to me with a muffin on moving day…the guy lending me his truck casually invited me to enjoy the muffin he’d “forgotten” on the dash…30 minutes later, I can’t figure out why I am high. Moving day was effortless.

DM. sounds like a wild mushroom experience more than a pot one, but I’ll believe you. However, the sheer and mere unwittingness of it belies some extra danger…that and the copious amounts consumed. Like anything you can control the degree of “highness” with each cookie you bake. If we could legally experiment with recipes, I think some amazing creativity could take place…we could revolutionize the world’s oldest profession (A bakery, according Major Frank Burns). And just imagine the slogan potential…

I had my suspicions that it was a mushroom experience, but it was determined to have been a canabis cake. Imagine the consequences of a mushroom cake!

Unwittingly eating copious amounts of canabis certainly does raise the sakes somewhat, instead of being able to control the input at a more reasonable pace and quantity.

Dangermouse doesn’t think that I have known many drug users. Sorry but that is pretty funny. Anyway I can see how you might have gotten that impression from what I said. My mistake actually. Yes heavy drug users are quite often the most arrogant, self centered people in the world while they are using. Quitting drugs and regaining your humility (defined as a realistic sense of self minus both exessive pride AND shame - they are actually two sides of the same coin) are very much the same thing. Nobody ever got off of drugs for long without accepting who they are.

About the brownie thing. Unless the brownies were analyzed at a lab there is no way that you know what went into them. It may have been just pot but I really doubt it. Not unless you have some outrageous sensitivity to THC.

It’s way too expensive in Taiwan.
Quality is hit and miss.
I don’t believe it is a gateway drug.
It is excellent for migraines when taken in advance (migraine sufferers will recognise when one is about to set in).
It is less addictive than nicotine or caffeine.
At least you can get discernably wrecked (nicotine and caffeine are just addictive ‘habits’ which don’t alter or expand the mind).
Marijuana turns one into an omnivore making the girlfriend’s mothers home-cooked chickens feet more palatable.
It makes one more creative.
It has a calming effect (look at the instances of British-inspired hooliganism in Holland comapred to Belgium during Euro 2000).
etc.

BroonAddict

Those are some of the positives Broonale. And that list could be added to. But if you are going to smoke a lot you might wanna make a list of the negatives too. For me the bottom line is that I have never smoked in Taiwan and it is in Taiwan that I finally got my shit together (kinda). Nuff said.
Not only do I think it should be legal, but in some cases mandatory.
Beep Beeeeep Beeeeeeeep.
“Hey, shut up and smoke this. It’s the law.”
“Oh sorry man. I was taking life seriously. I thought it mattered.”
Bill is the man.

It is distracting.
It induces lethargy.

That’s all for now…can’t be bothered to list the rest.

Combined with viagra, you can keep it up for hours and she’ll pay you (either because you are good or she is getting knackered). That way the consumption of MJ pays for itself. What a way to live.

It’s great work if you can find it.

This thread reminds me of an Onion article I read:

War on Drugs Over - Drugs Wins!

President hands over power to Nation’s stoners.

"This is my final point (oh thank you god). About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography (whatever that is). What business is it of yours what I do, buy, read, see or take into my body as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet. And for all those people out there who are having a little moral dilemma in your head about how to answer that question I’ll answer it for you: none of your fuckin’ business! Take that to the bank, cash it, and take a vacation out of my life.
“But see, here’s their argument to that each and every time: “but we have to protect the children, we have to protect the children.” Listen children are smarter than any of us. You know how I know that? I don’t know one child with a full time job and children. They’re quick these kids. Fuckin’ quick.”
(I think that at first I didn’t make it clear that I was quoting Mr. Hicks.)
