Speaking of “you don’t own anything”, Massachusetts passed a Right to Repair law for automobiles, and is being sued by car manufacturers seeking to have it struck down. Modern cars have all sorts of electronics, and when a problem arises the vehicle automatically sends a message to the manufacturer, which then contacts a franchised dealer. Only a dealer licensed by the auto maker can access that information- the car makers say that it is proprietary info that belongs to them, and only their dealers can use it.
This is not only an issue in car repair- manufacturers of farm equipment are refusing to give farmers the information needed so they can repair their own equipment, and it’s a becoming a general problem with any device connected to the internet i.e. everything- TVs, computers, e-books, digital music, manufacturing equipment, even household appliances.
