Sunday I am thinking of going out to Manyueyuan (Full Moon Park) in Sanxia for a long hike. Probably won’t make it to the old trees but we should get deep into the replanted cedar forests which are still lovely and cool.

How long is long? I’m going to a dinner/party near Banciao tonight, so will stay in Taipei county for the night. I’d like to come, but have to be back in Changhua by 3pm or so.

It will be long, 5-6 hours or so. Without Omni going I won’t get on the trail till 11am or so meaning there is no chance of you getting back to Zhanghua by 3pm if you go. Too bad. I really hope you can join us sometime.
Okay, so far just me and Kate. Anyone who wants to join meet at Xindian MRT at 10am. Back of the station where the buses stop.
Manyueyuan is lovely area, filled with waterfalls, and broadleaf forests that give way along the trail to cedar. Good chance to see monkeys and even barking deer.
Yes, we were really lucky that the weather was really nice for the hike. (I heard that it rained in Xindian and Muzha after I got home.)
We spent about 1.5 hours strolling in Manyueyuan and then we hiked Dongman Hiking Trail for probably 4 hours.
It’s much better that it was after I followed the intructions given by Chris and you. I had a fever yesterday; I feel better today. The continous pain has stoped; I only get some sense of pricking sometimes. I think I would recover from the injury in one week and hope I can hit hiking trails this weekend.
You should keep icing for a couple days then when all swelling is gone you can use heat and start stretches. Also you will likely find it swells after walking so again, ice it whenever you need to. You may in fact need to for many months after every round of exercising.
Note that a panadol before exercising can help to reduce swelling.

So is your ankle better now, Kate, and have you been hitting the trails again?

My ankle is better now, and I’ve hiked Xiaoshishan twice this week. I have watched more than 20 movies in my ankle injury period, I definitely need a long hike to keep me away from screen. Will we go hiking this weekend?
With MM in Canada, Chris soaking up the sun in Thailand (lucky fellow), a rain-laden frontal system arriving today, and a mass of cold air from China forecast to hit us tomorrow, the prospects aren’t looking too good I’m afraid.

I too am soaking up the sun, albeit with all my clothes on. But I am also enjoying the absolute horn of plenty as far as the variety of outdoor gear here in Vancouver.

Mountain Equipment Coop or Patagonia?
Both, and more.
But I must say Vancouver is really degenerating. More random trash on the streets than Taipei, drug addicts, dealers and homeless all around, and the skytrain is just full of nuts.

Doesn’t suprise me. While soaring real estate prices in BC have helped a lot of us out, they have hurt a lot of people in Vancouver. Like San Francisco, it is becoming a European-style of city with a super-rich population and a large working poor population.
Okay, hike this Saturday. Muzha. If it rains we will walk up to Zhinan Gong temple, down to the elementary school, up to Maokong Gondola Station, along the ridge to the new trail down to Zhangshan Temple then down the 1km cobbled path to the Zenda Uni ring road then down to the uni area for tea or coffee.
Okay, even if it doesn’t rain we will do this. Unless the weather report is totally off and it is sunny. Then we can consider the Bijia Shan trail.
Meet around 10am at Muzha Station and take a quick taxi to the start of the Zhinan Gong steps.
