I had to undergo a thorough background check to become a legal resident of Taiwan in order to prove I had no criminal past, am healthy, and am able to support myself.
The “background check” Democrats conducted on the 20,000 Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio who entered the country illegally was to point to 30 of them working diligently in a local factory and another couple of dozen who had joined local churches and extrapolate that to the other 19,950 Haitian immigrants.
Healthy, educated, law-abiding immigrants enrich a country but letting millions of strangers hike into your country and make themselves at home is creating a ticking time bomb. See “Fall of Roman Empire” for details.

We’ve been letting in millions of immigrants for a couple of centuries at least, some with dodgy pasts (there’s an entire country founded by criminals, but that’s another story). You could argue that allowing undocumented Sicilians with Mafia ties contributed to the decline of America, but I won’t, because they gave us The Godfather and The Sopranos, two of the greatest movies and TV series of all time.
Let’s unpack this a bit.
The bomb seems to be in the hands of white nativists making baseless and damaging allegations against newcomers. Vance and DJT speak for and amplify those baseless allegations. Why you would do that too remains mysterious—shitting on immigrants when you are also in that category.

That’s life in the big city. Millions of strangers streaming in at will is unsustainable, and a problem. It’s certainly not baseless, nor does wanting a more controlled form of immigration make one a “nativist”, white or not.

When in one thread some members are complaining about how stupid it is when any foreigners does something stupid here in Taiwan, they get outed in the media and Taiwanese are saying… oh those foreigners… like drinking on mrt, drugs, violence…
Then in another thread we have 4 Haitians (out of 20.000 Haitians in Springfield) that do something stupid and take some geese, and then it is fair game to blame all foreigners on this and calling all Haitians cat eaters, dog eaters

As has been pointed out, actual irony is people living in Taiwan and enjoying a society with tightly controlled immigration laughing about uncontrolled immigration in other countries and insulting those who think it’s a bad idea.

So you think it is perfectly fine to call all 20.000 Haitians for dog eaters and cat eaters when 4 out of 20.000 had a police report about taking geese?
Or those sitting in Taiwan enjoying the gun restrictions and national health care arguing against those policies in the US and insulting those who think they are a good idea.

Could you explain what you mean by this? What is this background check conducted by Democrats that you are talking about? Does it have anything to do with the checks and screening process conducted by the USCS?
I didn’t flout Taiwan’s immigration laws or at any point think I was entitled to residency. I went to a lot of effort to meet its background check, health, and solvency requirements. Lumping me in with illegal immigrants who ended up being a financial burden on taxpayers is a falsehood.
There are an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US currently. You’re a college graduate, right? That suggests you know the meaning of “undocumented.”

The people talking about “the benefits of living in a society with controlled immigration” are implying that illegal immigrants bring more crime. That’s an arguable point. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t. But what is inarguable is that American citizens commit far more crimes than immigrants - like, not even close, not just in sheer numbers but also proportionally, people born in the U.S. are far far far more likely to be criminals than an immigrant. They’re also lazier and far more likely to be on drugs, on welfare, and have kids out wedlock. The lowest rungs on the pole are more likely to be blacks in the ghetto and hillbillies in Methtown, West Virginia. Those kind of people cause more social problems than illegals. Let’s just be honest here.
So no answer. That’s fine - the entire post made little sense in any case. Plus most of the Haitians that are subject to MAGA insults and threats in Ohio are in the US legally by all accounts.

No lol. I’ll grant you the first part of your post above (any foreigners does something stupid here in Taiwan…). However, who’s saying that about the Haitians etc.? As you said, “it is fair game to blame all foreigners on this and calling all Haitians cat eaters, dog eaters”.
