The Oscars

Yeah the guy is 53 not 13. If he’s really mad he should find ways to get Chris Rock cancelled, not make himself look like a complete idiot.

The sad thing is, he appears to have a lot of cheerleaders. Not a lot of maturity around these days, unfortunately.

Looks staged to me…I’ve seen a lot of WWE and know the fake slaps from the real ones. First off, Chris was leaning forward with his “slap” cheek out towards Will as if he’s expecting a slap and getting ready into position. Next, the slap itself…if you watch it closely, Will’s palm hardly makes contact with Chris’ cheek (just like the WWE slaps) and the swing…it was not a full ROM swing…it looks like it was a forced and controlled swing. He didn’t go full on 100%. Right after the slap, you can see Will trying to suppress a smile and he gives a smirk and walks away. If you’ve seen a real confrontation and a real slap, you will know when someone slaps you that hard, you will stagger backwards and hold your cheek with your hand and the aggressor will stand there cursing and shouting, not smiling and walk away.

And after accepting the award for Best Male Actor, he made a speech about Richard Williams and how he “was a fierce defender of his family” which goes to show he was probably playing the part of Richard and defending his wife, Jada.

Chris Rock should have watched this video before tonight’s Oscar ceremony
How to protect yourself from a b#$%h slap

He was most definitely smiling afterwards, but I think it’s cause he knew how crazy it was. And not going 100% on it doesn’t mean it was fake. One slap vs a hard beatdown are two totally different things.

Could be fake, but I lean toward not.

Nah, that shit was definitely not staged. Chris Rock got quiet like his Dad had just hit him after; dude looked like he might cry. And when Will was screaming at him from the audience he looked like he was fuming. You don’t stage that for publicity; they’ll both be late-night fodder for weeks (memes are already all over Reddit) and it may affect Will’s ability to get hired for movies if insurance companies and directors think he’s unhinged.

Ffs, it wasn’t staged.

People think everything is fake and staged now. Sign of our times.

It’s the first time Chris Rock’s made me laugh.

And Will Smith for that matter (okay, Prince of Bel-Air had its moments).

I watched. I was convinced it was a staged event. Boring.

What? Insult someone’s hair and get attacked?

So every time someone here makes a comment about a bald guy, that’s a green light for a slapping?

It’s his wife and she has an autoimmune condition. Did he overreact? Yeah, sure. But if Chris Rock knew his wife had that, she should’ve been off limits.

If you’re at a pub and someone insults your significant other to your face, what would you do?

Probably the worst possible take on this.

I completely agree with this, but not for this instance. It was an innocuous hair joke…extremely mild even by award show standards. If Smith can do that here, I think Ricky Gervais could be shot if he ever gets invited to host another event.

In that situation, I agree. Though there are many verbal situations where an ass-kicking would be completely appropriate to stick up for your wife and/or family.

Def against physical violence, he was immature. But how do you know she doesn’t need his support? She may be crying herself to sleep every night. He might know how fragile she is and that she couldn’t take the joke like a normal person would. We don’t know about their personal life. So stop with the toxic masculinity nonsense.

Well, he’s an actor and that’s what he does best…acting and making everyone believe what he does is real…and dropping a few F bombs certainly makes the scenario seem more real. Pretty sure if it was real, there would be security there to escort you out or at least talk to you by taking you to the side…and Chris Rock declined to press charges.

No, I don’t assume everything is fake and staged…in fact, it is the contrary as I like to believe most real-life events to be real. (even though it screams fake). But somehow, this interaction between these two actors makes me believe it’s somewhat staged, taking all things into consideration.

You guys obviously don’t follow showbiz. Their marriage problem was all over celebrity gossip not that long ago.

Some people think it’s staged as Will Smith was shown laughing at the joke, Jada Pikett Smith wasn’t laughing but she didn’t seem particularly incensed, maybe slightly annoyed at most. 5 seconds later he stormed on stage and slapped Chris Rock. The entire exchange makes no sense whatsoever.

What does that even mean? It either is or it isn’t.

And it most certainly isn’t.

At last Oscars are a bit entertaining.

Interesting. When someone baselessly invades another country and kills thousands, his actions should be defended.
Smacking someone who makes fun of your wife for having a physical condition? That’s going too far.
I’m not surprised about the defences here. Trump mockingly imitating a reporter with a disability; Rush Limbaugh mocking Michael J Fox- notice a pattern?
