Tiger Woods Apologizes

news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/golf/8521060.stm

What do people think about his frankness? Was it really necessary? I mean, he’s a bloody sportsman, not a politician or priest. Sure, he’s a “role-model”, but really? Why is he held accountable to the public? It’s a private matter between him and his family, and between him and his sponsors. What sort of world do we live in where a GOLFER that I have never met has to apologize to ME? :loco:

Not necessary at all. Mike Tyson has done far worse than Tiger Woods.

I think Tiger Woods just really wants those sponsors onside again.

Well, I think you said why: Because he is accountable to his sponsors. Public opinion influences which celebrities get advertising contracts. His appearing to be contrite may gain him favor with a segment of the public who may have been turned off him by his actions, and consequently gain him favor in keeping some of the sponsors he hasn’t already lost.

Who cares?

Not necessary at all. Why do we need his apology?

Actually, it looked as though he might cry a couple times throughout the statement…Can’t say that did anything positive for my opinion about him, lol.

He should explain that the whole issue caused a lot of pain for his whole family and that since the media made a public issue out of this he is willing to make public the fact that he is going to try to make ammends to his family. He should point out that the media was responsible for a lot of the pain caused to his family and for that he is going to do his utmost to see that it is held accountable. He is going to attempt to discover who did what and for what purpose. He should point out that in this, certainly the most complex times ever facing humanity, the media is concentrating WAY too much time on issues such as his infidelity.

He is in a unique position to argue such points and he won’t because:

  1. He doesn’t have the intelligence.

  2. He doesn’t have the courage.

  3. He just wants the sponsors back.

Endorsements. It’s all about endorsements, and lack thereof.

It’s not like he’s in the poor house or anything. He’s a bloody billionaire!

He didn’t shag me.

I’d shag him for half his fortune. Honest. But then I’m not his type. Maybe with a blond wig and a boob job… now you’ve got me thinking.

He spoke too slowly, though. perhaps that was in his CNN contract, so they could get more mileage from his speech.

That’s not what his wife says.

I have to agree. It’s got to be about the sponsorships etc, because he certainly doesn’t need to justify or apologize to me for what he does or doesn’t do in the bedroom (or with whom). I’ve found the entire debacle to be terribly distasteful.

That horrid speech went on for an eternity. This a bleedin’ golfer, for cryin’ out loud! One can’t really blaming them, or him, for racking up so many holes in one!

Should’ve blamed Bush.

That’s not what his wife says. [/quote]

Maybe that was what his wife says (that he didn’t shag her). Maybe that was the problem.

Anyway, too many cynics. I agree that he’s “just” an athlete and I agree he’s surely disappointed with his loss of mega-millions in endorsements. But I feel he probably fessed up because he knows he has blown his personal and professional life very badly, he’s probably a perfectly decent guy who was raised by good parents, and he feels shame that he acted so wrongly – to his wife and children, most importantly. And I feel he probably regrets that (though he savors the memories of all the hussies he bonked) and wishes he could have a healthy, peaceful relationship with his beautiful wife and kids and a healthy, superstar golf career unfettered by all the rumors, accusations and turmoil. Perhaps I’m a little gullible, but I believe he’s feeling sincere regret and remorse (and not just about money).

I, also, would like to apologize.

I’d love to.

I apologize for having nasty sex with twin lesbian fashion models.
I apologize for schtupping the porn star.
I apologize for lewd behavior in the sushi bar with Miss Japan 2008.
I’m sorry I despoiled the salmon roe.

Poor Tiger. He is so stupid he doesn’t realize that he is apologizing to the very people who victimized him.

Agreed. So why’s he apologizing to ME? He should be apologizing to his wife and family in private. :2cents:

I’d shag him for a lot less than that.

Because once the media broke the Watergate scandal they realised they could stick their nose into any shit that caused a slight stink, and that they no longer had to be deferential to what amounted to overpaid and underclassed dickwads. Tiger is a rich globally known married black man fucking poor white unmarried women in a largely white conservative country. You think the media won’t be all over that like a Taiwanese person at an ‘all the chicken necks you can eat’ restaurant?

Highest paid athlete in history, gets paid billions to hit a little ball around in a beautiful outdoor setting, married to hot swedish babe, father of two beautiful kids, has sex with various hot hostesses and porn stars on the side. . . Wow, I wouldn’t mind being a victim myself.
