Tom Clancy takes on Taiwan = scenarios please

OFF TOPIC

Since I have’t read the book, why would KMT fanatics try to engineer a war between China and US? To get on power there again? :astonished: :ponder:
Can’t really answer that even though I’ve read it. But the book was written/released in the late 70s or early 80s, so it’s against that kind of backdrop.

Ok, I just had this flash of inspiration:

So, mayor media outlets are already in the hands of PRC exoficials turned entreprenours, right? Now, everyone is building like crazy so that they can sell overpriced shoe-boxes to the “rich” Chinese. Two things can happen:

 1. They really sell their shabby, overpriced carton holders to the Chinese, in such numbers that they become a growing influence in society, so that actually, gradual, peaceful integration is accomplished… :roflmao: I mean, it appears so at firsts, but natural clashes between new immigrants and local residents -different customs, different backgrounds- resort into clashes between formal authorities -who cannot rule in favor of locals, in spite of being teh majority, since their ticket meal is on the mainlanders side- and informal -heidao, represneting both sides, but also mostly MMainland as they benefit from gravel and building rackets- turn into an all out war.

PRC sends troops to “establish order” -defend their people, and all hell breaks loose.

 1. They go on with their mad building… and nothing happens. No one buys, as most people have been laid off/do not have enough income to buy a house. Most businesspeople -the ones who could buy and invest in these compexes- are pissed as no matter how many people they fire, they cannot match the costs of making stuff in Mainland, Vietnam, or Cambodia, and cannot keep up with tehjir lifestyle and invest madly in “world domination” as they do not have their 200% profit shares anymore. Too many abscond bank loans, flee the country. Banks collapse. Economy strikes a halt, as all eggs are in the real estate/hotel business. Government cannot intervene, as most business people = loaners on the run = politicians. Social chaos = intervention. Taiwan is kaput.

Vampires are discovered to exist, gradually come out of hiding and are cautiously integrated in society. Since they can vote, the political parties try to attract their support, with young KMT women being told by their fathers and bosses to offer their necks to the suckheads in order to woo them. But soon a new form of vampirism breaks out, caused by a mutated bin lang compound from Pingdong. The vampires turn green, and attack all blues. The greens are happy - until the blues start coming back to life as Maoist zombies. But CSB escapes from jail and, playing the Chinese flute, leads all the zombies and vampires into the ocean, “Follow me to the south!” he cries, and then is seen no more.

During a DPP administration, despite strong protests from the international community, Taiwan unilaterally declares independence and flips a bird at the world. Pro-independence people party like no tomorrow.

Last minute negotiations to prevent war between China and Taiwan break down. Some Taiwanese flee. Some, who think that the Taiwanese military can work miracles, stay.

China sends in it’s military. Overwhelms the Taiwanese military completely. Premature partying finishes.

DPP government wonders why America isn’t honouring the Taiwan Relations Act. The US replies, “we’re not going to sacrifice our military and our lives for you”. Taiwan finds that, although the international community opposes China’s belligerent response, no country does anything to help. No military support. No pulling embassy staff out of Beijing. No sanctions against China. No travel bans. No freezing bank accounts. Even the countries recognizing Taiwan don’t do much beyond a saying stern word or two in the media.

China takes over Taiwan.

The world goes on, as it should.
Spoken like a true CCP cadet.

Its not a flight of fancy to them at all the above scenario. Its Tom Clancy by the CCP.
This is why no one batted an eye when a couple of US officials and politicians we met said that China Lobbyists tend to be “paranoid about Taiwan”, laying out scenarios that are “far fetched”. They did win in many fronts on the lightly “condemn Chen/TI” front though.

Also in the Tom Clancy universe, isn’t Taiwan long independent and China under a new system of government after the “old CCP” is largely overthrown? It could have been another series, I haven’t been reading them in a long time and they’re all kind of alike.

DPP wins next presidential election. In a speech, the new president refers to Taiwan and China as separate countries. China nukes Taiwan.

CSB did it a few times and nothing happened…

Maybe he should have done a “Chavez” thing, then he would probably be shaking hands with Obama…

Best Scenario so far

Following:

The WHO issues a full pandemic alert on the pingdong mutated binlang, with symptoms such as driving decrepit scooters at incredible speed, a new found proficiency in Taiyu language, and a weird crave for chodofu in nighttime. It soon becomes clear it was part of an evil plan to make the whole world taiwanese…

Someone for the next sequel ?

Dont forget the propensity to wear blue flip flops everywhere, including to weddings.

The US, realizing the potential to get out of the economic depression, welcomes all the buxiban laobans who’ve fled Taiwan with all the deposits. Taiwan blames the foreign teachers, of course, and forces them to enscript in the Armed Forces where they’ll be trained as kamikazes, crashing Kymcos and SYMs into Chinese tanks.
