Now that the last scandal is out of the way and Froomey has been confirmed to start, time to make our bets.
Head thinks Froome will win.
Heart wants Porte to win and will be supporting him throughout.
This year’s edition is quite ‘fair’ for the top teams, with lots of hardcore climbing stages but also big TTT and ITT stages. Whos else will be following closely? What’s the best way to catch the races in Taipei or on TV in Taiwan? Known streams that will work here?
I wanted to mention something along those lines but didn’t want to jinx it. I already have a backup personal favourite in Dumoulin if Porte stacks though .
Porte’s biggest problem will be he doesn’t have the mountain firepower in support like Froome/G do. GVA is there for targeted stage wins. And they got 3 TT specialists so they’ll win the TTT. But they need guys to pull Porte up the hills. Who gonna do that? TJ will blow-up at a crucial stage as usual, so only Caruso really.
I actually think the fact that this years mountain stages seem more brutal, will level out the support firepower of Sky. I don’t think G can keep up with the real climbers.
Sky will probably dominate the TTT though, but BMC is one of the teams that should be competitive.
Don’t forget Gerrans joined BMC this year. He’s a hell of a rider.
Gerrans is 38, he’ll be no use in the high mountains.
I reckon there’s a good chance G might attack Froome if they end up alone on a high mountain stage. For sure Brailsford’s been feeding him a line of BS about he’s a co-leader same as they did to Cav. At 32 he knows time’s running out.
I can’t understand why anyone cares about this sport anymore. It’s riddled with drugs. It’s no longer about who can ride clean, but about who can dope smartest.
