Turkey - a safe place for a vacation?

Terrorism aside, your gf should not travel alone there.

I went with a tour in Istanbul once. All the women in the group complained of being harassed by local men when not with a man. These Candian girls took a local bus without a male escort and complained about being groped and fingered by local men.

And due to China’s policy in East Turkmenstan, there were some protests against Asians several years ago. Many of the more religious ones probably harbor resentment to anyone who looks Chinese.

Wtf

I’m getting a lot of mixed info here.

You’ll need to look at murder stats to make a decision. Turkey doesn’t look too high to me, about three times that of the UK:

I would go if I were you, but as has been mentioned by others I would accompany my wife at all times.

It’s a lot lower than that of the US.

This is true.

She was hitchhiking, okay?

I definitely won’t be doing any of that.

I cannot believe that anybody, of any gender, still hitchhikes. Psychopaths target them.

I feel like this discussion would make sense if you’ve only lived in Taiwan your whole life since TWese ppl are paranoid af, but since you grew up in the US … I don’t see how Turkey, especially Istanbul, would be a problem.

I know someone who did a tour of Taiwan via hitchhiking. She’s a girl. I wouldn’t do that though. It’s just awkward

A friend of mine likes to do that. He comes from money too, but for some reason he liked living like a hippie smoking weed and not doing any work. All Off his parents money of course. He said he never had an issue doing it for years except one time where the driver pulled his dick out in the middle of a conversation.

So did he blow him?

It’s a significant risk. A quick search of serial killers who often targeted hitchhikers will show this. Off the top of my head: Ted Bundy, the Truck Stop Killer (forget his name - a very nasty bastard), Fred and Rosemary West.

Well in the US sure. In Taiwan I think that’s really rare or just unheard of. Though tbf hitchhiking is really not that popular in Taiwan since trains are available.

He said no. Apparently the driver thought he was gay and misread his signals and apologized lol. So I guess it wasn’t that bad.

To be fair to the driver…I’ve always suspected he might be gay. So maybe he’s not wrong.

That’s understandable. If I think somebody may be heterosexual I pull out my manhood and display it. A quaint internet custom, I think.

Yep, Taiwan is underperforming with serial killers (at least those who have been caught). Only one?

Blimey, the UK looks like top of the list:

Jesus.

I would definitely take the US State Department’s warnings over @Gain’s opinions, @Andrew0409.

Probably doesn’t have to be said for you (no doubt you know better), but for anybody else please check with US DOS.

Definitely read the State Department warnings, but don’t let them make you too paranoid. Just as in any big city, take reasonable precautions. I found the city to be very enjoyable and I never felt unsafe.
