Using US Credit Cards in Taipei

My card is either e sun bank or fubon bank.

You probably already know this but when you use a US credit in Taiwan sometimes there will be a choice to be billed in US$ or NT$. Choose NT$ because then the exchange rate will be based on the bank rate and not the rate of the retailer which is typically not as good.

Yup, gotta be happy with the strong USD at least for now

The website you linked may be outdated. It seems there would be a mass riot if one of the largest convenience store chains in Taiwan only accepted one bank card in 2023.

Even other places like PX Mart that have exclusive deals with certain banks can accept multiple bank cards.

And you’re an Android user so your card is linked to Google Pay, right? And you’re saying Google Pay with E. Sun or Fubon works with 7-11?

More info here (constantly updated)

Here is a better link:
7-ELEVEN

Apple Pay/Google Pay/Samsung Pay can be paid through credit cards bound to China Trust, Cathay Bank, Yushan Bank, Taishin Bank, Taipei Fubon, Sino-Fung Bank, Commonwealth Bank, and Shin Kong Bank.

Looks like they expanded the accepted Taiwanese banks with time.

It seems the table you provided is still outdated because Hi-Life definitely accepts my Cathay card. But thanks for the update.

So far American credit cards have had no issues. Smaller shops def cash only.

I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Schwab’s customer service. We “lost” our Schwab debit card and they sent a replacement which arrived in 2-3 days, and they didn’t even charge for the expedited shipping. :+1:
