I’m going to Taiwan next March for work and i use WeChat to contact my Supplier in China, is WeChat blocked in Taiwan?
because I’ve heard mixed responses like it’s blocked in Taipei but not in Tainan
WeChat works but if you stop using it for a certain amount of time (no idea how long) it locks you out, and you must have another WeChat user to unlock you. I have no idea how to get it to work and unless I find another phone number I can’t use WeChat at all.
You can’t even create a new account with that phone number unless you get a current WeChat user to “vouch” for you. And the system doesn’t work half the time.
I’ve been using it here for several years, registered to my Taiwanese phone number, and it’s not blocked. I did start getting these messages maybe 2 months ago, eventually forcing me to update my region to Taiwan (it had been set to the UK since I opened the account in maybe 2013), because I think some features are only available in China. Haven’t noticed any difference in the service yet though. (I removed the small amount of money I had in my WeChat Wallet anyway, just in case.)
yea sometimes you get locked out you have to get a friend on wechat to text you a code to be able to sign in. It’s a pain. I hear in China they don’t do that.
If you change phones or wipe it wechat will do that.
The security measure itself, where you need to choose a friend or two to contact by other means so they can send you a code to log in, does (or did) happen and it’s pretty annoying. I haven’t had it for several years now though, and it didn’t happen when I recently changed my phone. I don’t think it’s something that happens all the time by default.
