To get the vaccine you need to be in the official MOE database. To get in the database everyone needs a background check.

My girlfriend has to do this tomorrow. I had to do this a few months back, but that’s because someone is accusing my school of doing illegal stuff and Ministry of Education had to investigate.
From what I hear, teachers need to be registered with MOE to get the vaccine. Apparently, we were all supposed to be registered when we first got our first teaching jobs too, but most schools just don’t bother. Based on what I heard after my school’s MOE visit, MOE knows schools don’t do this and they don’t really do anything about it.
How do we even check our 1922 number when to come in???
Yeah, my boss also asked us to get a police check for something to do with vaccine registration about two weeks ago, I think I mentioned it earlier on this thread somewhere. So you aren’t the only one. Again, not sure why it’s needed but it’s an easy process and only takes two working days.
Does the vaccine you get just come down to luck if the draw? My wife’s school got me on the list too because I have taught a few summer classes. I had to send them a copy of my ARC, perhaps for the background check. I’d prefer the protein subunit vaccines, but they may not be available. I’d probably take an mRNA vaccine, but wouldn’t give it to my kids, and I am not interested in the vector vaccines.
Until some of the Noravax arrives (who knows when?), there are alas no such vaccines available in Taiwan.

Thanks for the reply. I am glad that it isn’t just my school. The process is very easy! I just didn’t understand why I was asked to do it. However, I am happy that there appears to be a valid reason!
Teachers in Pingtung County began to vaccinate today. Taitung County is expected to start the vaccination on July 17, but some other counties and cities have already reached the 8th and 9th categories, but the educators listed in the 7th category have not been able to wait. Notice, questioning the chaotic order of execution.

My Buxiban also asked for a criminal record check…it’s not too difficult to apply for online, but I was a little confused because they should have been able to use the one that I got from the States. I was told I needed a new one to get the vaccination.
I think it’s because we use the background check for our country to get a job so they know once we have an ARC we don’t have a criminal record at home. Then this MOE registration thing is for everyone, including Taiwanese teachers, so they probably just use the same process for us.
My school did this for all of the teachers at the same time. My boss had to get like 30 of these record checks, which was reassuring. At that point I knew it wasn’t just us foreigners they weren’t following the rules for.

Will these schools be responsible should teachers have to take time off due to any side effects? What about sick pay or hospital care? Could teachers take legal action?
Most will vaccinate between now and mid August. So side effects should not require time off.
There is insurance for that.
I’ve been told schools can strongly suggest teachers get vaccinated, but can’t mandate it.
I just received confirmation from my uni that faculty and staff at universities in Taiwan will NOT be considered in Category 7.
Let’s just say I am less than delighted by the way we’ve been yanked around here by the MOE and other decision makers.
I would in addition surmise that this means we—i.e. those of us in the university system—will almost certainly be teaching online in the Fall.

Chances are, the didn’t log you into the MOE system when they hired you. Either they’re too lazy or they’re trying to avoid taxes.
We need a clear criminal record thanks to some weirdo that just had to fuck their minor/freshly turned 18 student and that student killed herself. Though it’s not like a clear record could prevent this from happening again… said teacher from the story doesn’t have any criminal record and is still in the industry.
