I’m not sure if Tonga technically counts as Pacific Rim, but dramatic and bad things happening there:
I wouldn’t take the Japanese government or its scientists for pessimists. Actually, a n active volcano can be quite disruptive. In a big city like Tokyo, it’ll be really catastrophic show stopper: no flights, trains and even ground traffic as electricity fails. No food distribution , no running water, health system collapse. We’ve had it with 1% if the population of Tokyo and the video is not alarmist. It is chilling.
You should then watch some of the Yellowstone supervolcano videos.
I see your Yellowstone, and raise it to a . . . Yangmingshan eruption! ![]()

Oh I have, both scientific and not so much. Most importantly, we got plenty of experience surviving volcanic eruptions in the old country. However, a super caldera is a very different story.
As to Fuji san, dunno what the real projections.
If karma exists, maybe a Fuji-san eruption will take out some of the many selfie taking tourists noisily crowding around that famous Lawson’s convenience store. ![]()

Again, depends of the direction of the flow, whether it is lava or just ash, prevailing winds, etc ad nauseam. I am thinking more like Tokyo post Shin Godzilla.
I think that landmark is no more. They built a corrugated metal wall around it. People moved to a nearby bridge but traffic makes the shot tricky.
The only thing that can save Japan from over tourism is if the yen gains value. Otherwise, there will be tourists taking selfies over the lava.
Don’t give them more ideas!!!

Fuji san is just sleeping apparently so is Datun Mt and 7 star. OUr very own volcanic chain were long thought to be extinct until current research shows last eruptions likely less than 10,000 years ago making them dormant and not extinct.
a massive eruption of our datun volcanic chain will be devastating to Taipei as well Fuji San going off in Japan in like fashion.
Is the pacific rim of fire seeing more activity? Its not just volcanos we need to wory about , its quakes as we ALL know.
isnt the sun at solar maximus currently until 2026. increased sun radiation causes techtonic plate pressure shifts therefore causing volcanos to go off and quakes. FAIK.
It’s 2025. Nothing new would surprise me now.

I visited Crater Lake in Oregon yesterday. It’s truly awe inspiring. The lake is 6 miles wide and 2,000 feet deep. The volcanic mountain was 12,000 feet high but the rim in the photo is now about 5,000 feet elevation. The crater was formed over a three hour period 7,700 years ago when the mountain blew its top. The power to eject that much earth and rocks in such a short period of time is unimaginable.
were they going to close it for something like 3 years?
The park will stay open. Only access to the water via hiking trail will be closed until 2029.
What was interesting when we were there was there was nobody at the front gate collecting $30 per car entry fee as is normal. When I finally found a ranger to ask why she said they were too short-staffed to human the gate to collect fees so they were losing about a quarter million dollars a week in revenue. She also said it was cause for immediate dismissal to say why/who they were so short-staffed.
Beautiful picture and I hope I get to visit someday!
It was indeed a huge amount of material displaced, though not all of it got erupted into the stratosphere. They say magma from the climactic event traveled 64 km from the crater before the caldera collapsed!
