I am trying to set up my IPOD touch (4th Gen.) using WIFI/VPN networks. This is really confusing and I’m wondering if the settings are different in Taiwan and the US. Has anyone linked their ipod to a connection like this in Taiwan before. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Whose VPN server are you connecting to and what protocol? Is it a corporate server or your personal server?
It is hinet’s VPN. My landlord has provided my internet so as far as I know it’s personal. It’s definitely not corporate.
Do you mean you’re just trying to connect your iphone by wifi to your home router? VPN is something completely different.
I’m not disagreeing with you, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. So I use my ipod to connect to my wireless router at my house. After connecting to my wireless just fine I seem to encounter a problem. Although I connect to my wireless router I’m not actually on the internet on my Ipod almost as if my connection is hollow or something. So I 'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that when I connect to my internet on my computer I have to use a VPN connection or something that says a broadband connection.
All I know for sure is that when i connect on my laptop I have to connect to my wireless router and then connect to something called broadband connection, but its categorized under the “dial up VPN connection.”
This is on the latest windows OP.
I dno if this clarifies or just makes things more confusing…
Do you actually have a wireless router or are you getting wireless directly through the CHT box by paying an extra monthly fee to them?
I have my own wireless router with my own password etc. etc.
Your router is not configured properly, what model is it?
hmmm looks to be a “D-link” router. Bought in Taiwan.
OK here is what I have deduced. I have a PPPoe connection in my apartment. When I connect on my computer with wireless, first connect to the wireless router (enter user name and password) then I again connect to the PPPoe by entering a different user name and password. It works for my computer, but the ipod doesn’t do that.
Is there some way to combine the two connections into one wireless connection?
I may have had a similar problem if I am understanding you correctly.
To solve it, click on Wi-Fi in settings, then instead of clicking on your network click on Other…
Then type the name of your network and click on security underneath. If the security menu, change the setting from None to WPA and re-enter your password.
That worked for me.
I fiddled with it a bit, but I don’t think that’s the main problem. It seems that the Ipod touch is not compatible with PPPoe netowrks.
You are supposed to set up the PPPoE connection through your router.
Connect your PC to the router, don’t start the PPP connection. Then surf to 192.168.0.1 (or if that doesn’t work 192.168.1.1).
I assume you never set up your router before so the login will be admin with no password.
DLink routers have an easy setup wizard but if you don’t read Chinese or know someone who does then you are SOL because there is no English language option.
While you are in there set an admin password and change the wireless security to WPA2 to stop people stealing your bandwidth.
Or if you tell me the exact model of the router there should be an English manual.
I would pay someone money if they could get my ipod to work.
Or you could just tell me the router model number…
Open an internet browser and connect to 192.168.1.1.
You will get a page asking you to log in to the router. In the top left corner you will see the model number (something like DIR-625 or WBR-2310).
DIR-615
this appears to be the model number.
I have one of those, easy as pie.
I assume you bought this in Taiwan and don’t read Chinese so first look here for the English translation of the interface: support.dlink.com/emulators/ … /index.htm
Open Internet Explorer / Firefox / whatever and surf to 192.168.0.1
By default there is no password. If you see an image with random numbers/letters then enter those numbers/letters in the box next to it then click 登入.
When you are logged in click on Manual Internet Connection Setup (refer to the English translation above to see where you need to click, it’s the second button down).
Then My Internet Connection Is… select PPPoE.
Change the Username to your Hinet username that you got on the little blue card (don’t forget to add @hinet.net at the end, for example 123456788@hinet.net)
Change Password to your Hinet password.
Reconnect mode: Always On
Now go back to the top of the page and hit Save Settings.
If you did it right then after a few seconds the WAN light on the front of your router (earth icon) will turn green.
Don’t forget after you do this you won’t have to use the dialup connection on your PC any more either, you’ll be connected immediately.
It says i need a manager to do this? It said that in Chinese after I saved the settings.
