Not sure if this is “wack”, but I found it interesting - Hefei Metro has apparently replaced the English translations of station names with pinyin.
No idea who benefits from that, but I doubt it’s tourists trying to get to the train station. 
One more nail in the coffin as the PRC turns inward?

That’s what occurred to me too, yes.
When I visited China as a tourist - years ago - the “English” signage made me laugh. They were invariably just pinyin renderings of the Chinese, not actual translations. I thought they were just being lazy, but going to the effort of changing actual English signs to pinyin suggests it is/was deliberate.
They might actually have a point though:
For example: Hefei Railway Station is spelled as Hefei Huochezhan, Hefei South Station is Hefei Nanzhan, and Hefei West Station is Hefei Xizhan.
If you’re a foreigner asking someone for directions, it might indeed be useful to have some idea how these are pronounced.
If you went there that many years ago, you must have seen pinyin for pinyin’s sake, not as an attempt at foreignness. The idea was that it would eventually replace characters.
You do have a point about asking for directions.

And they probably torture them because it makes the meat taste “better”.
I don’t even want to think about it.
If you google “china eat cat” you will see some very gruesome things…
Can’t understand what motivates people to do this. I mean, wouldn’t it be somewhat easier to just, like, raise a few sheep and sell them as mutton in the usual way?
It seems like some people will go out of their way to commit fraud even if they don’t get any benefit from it.
Probably some benefit, even if slight. I never saw them, but I remember hearing about counterfeit one yuan coins. 
Lamb is expensive for a reason… easier to just catch stray cats off the street…
But reason people don’t eat cat is because cats can only eat expensive meat, whereas sheeps eat grass, that and cats don’t have much meat (like maybe 4lbs of meat off a single cat).
So is lamb expensive or not?
