I lived in England when Halloween was just taking off, and older people would grumble about American influences pushing out Guy Fawkes Day. There is apparently some of the same complaints in Mexico about Yankee Halloween customs replacing traditional Day of the Dead celebrations.
XJP keeps trying to remove foreign influences, that won’t work with Halloween I think

Happens in Taiwan, too. All Halloween related activities for schools and bushibans fall on the weekend so as to maximize the marketability of this non-Taiwanese activity.

Halloween was at hand, as a celebration mostly followed by German, Scottishn and Irish settlers (another of the many great contributions to America brought by immigrants).
