Wack Things in Taiwan 2020

I bought a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray’s at RT Mart in the import aisle. https://www.google.com/maps/place/RT+Mart/@25.0196038,121.5133979,13z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x3442abd956fb89ab:0x7af68a3c0cbeb560!8m2!3d25.046781!4d121.542609?shorturl=1

Thank you so much! Ill go check it out this weekend.

Today I saw the first Uder taxi!

What’s that?

image

It’s spelled Üter.

No idea, it was written on the roof taxi sign, ‘Uder’ Taxi.

I saw a red number, white and green taxi the other day that said Smart.

I think it’s just a fancy name for a cow you can ride…

i’m slowly getting driven insane by a water tank machine thing on a neighbours roof. its making such an annoying low hum that its waking me up every night. i’ve complained to the landlord a million times but nobody seems to give a crap. saw a couple of fat goons earlier ‘checking’ it. it took them a week to get two fat guys on the roof to walk around up there for 5 minutes, good work guys!

the government did do a sound check thing but as its a low hum it wasn’t deemed loud enough. not really sure what i can do, already looking for a new apartment but thats a shitshow in itself and until i find one i have to put up with the noise. i wish my chinese was better so i could moan at them about it. i tried it in a mixture of crap chinese and english. total fail.

cha bu duo bullshit around.

No one cares. If they started pulling all the vehicles that are too noisy off the street it would be a blessing. Also the willy-nilly setting off of firecrackers should end.

Seems like they could add a timer to only hum in daytime.

And send the fat goons up at 3am.

yea i asked my landlord if they could just turn it off at night until they find a solution (because now thats apparently what they are doing) i have no faith in that actually happening though. i regret telling them about it, i think i could have got away with dropping a brick into it if nobody knew it was me with the problem.

i’m actually next to a busy road and the sound of traffic has nothing on this hum.

A temple near me recently was at least environmentally friendly enough to blast firecracker noises over a speaker at 120 decibels. A major improvement, certainly.

I wish there was a default “laugh” emoji () in addition to the “like” ().

Speaking of neighbour noise, why does my upstairs neighbour insist on running her noisy clothes washing machine at 11 pm and 5 am every day ? fffffffffffuuuuuu..

Because she hates you.

I lived in a couple places with the same problem. Some of those pumps on roofs had broken bearings and made a terrible screeching noise. Started around 5 am each morning. But these pumps are a nuisance anyway, you hear them buzzing at any time of the day but especially in the early morning. It’s now one of the things I check when I have to move to a new place.

Possibly true! Well, not hating me (who could), but my landlords.

They have tried to force her to make substantial repairs to “leaks.” Not major leaks and not necessarily her fault. My landlords hate her. The only possible slight she might have against me is loud cursing (but totally outside her warshing regime).

I wear ear plugs to sleep, so, not tempted to get involved.

@Rocket I am curious to know how you’d personally deal with this (although it’s not a real hassle). 拜託!

Maybe she reads your posts on here

The fuck you asking me for??
You assume it would bother me, which it probably fucking wouldn’t.
If I were enough of a precious porcelain doll to notice, I’d probably either:

  • Steal her washer

or

  • Blow up her place of business so she’d go running back to whatever Yunlin shithole from whence she originated

:idunno:

Thanks anyways, sport, I speak English.

Thanks for your surly reply. Made my day.

  1. A @rocket response is always worth the effort.. I ask YOU for the pleasure of your reply.
  2. Love how my IP shows up as Yunlin, even though I don’t live there (Chiayi, close enough?):winking_face_with_tongue:
  3. Beautifully articulated over-wrought responses (I tend to ignore the annoyance, as most would). Yeah, so, I wouldn’t overreact either :innocent:

Cheers! My English is pretty good too! (TOEIC be damned). I have heard tell 普通話 may be your best language, but rumours abound.

And @KongTaigi
Or get multi-room speakers and play some nice background noise 24/7. My house sounds like a country night forest between those hours. Plus I have the dehumidifier or AC and the air purifier. You’d like it, and it would take a rock concert to disturb you.

Screw wearing earplugs or harassing an old lady.
