The Government feels bad because the public criticizes the use of cash as backward and not up to the latest fashion… which comes from the media giving examples of how advanced China is in cashless, even beggars use apps to receive money, etc.

There are at least two types of people in two camps.
One camp wants cashless, another camp does not want cashless.
Others want some type of mix, and others have no care and just follow the crowd.
If you want to be controlled by the state that’s the way to go.

Exactly…it’s cool and fashionable.
Yet, cashless is not friendly for tourists/short-term visitors, unless some accepted-worldwide cashless systems are in place. But in Taiwan we can’t even get simple services to recognize resident ID numbers, let alone recogizing a variety of cashless payment methods from different countries.

I see most vending machines in Taiwan use apple pay and google pay. For travel I prefer not dealing with cash. Love using uber/grab, cashless for public transport. But I do believe cash should be an option for turist, old people and criminals.

So I log into the 24-hour Live Help chat.
And Becky, bless her heart, posts up, ready, willing, and able to do everything in her power to keep me from finding out her name is actually Nandi and she’s in downtown Mumbai.
And so I explain the whole deal to her, and she tells me to hang on.
In a minute she’s back, and she says

What are you talking about? Those methods are already in place: visa or MasterCard payment gateways. It’s not rocket science. Cashless with card access makes it most convenient for localities as well as tourists. Not to mention safer.
