I was surprised how easy the thread was to find - I just searched “landlord i threw out the furniture”, and didn’t really expect it to work, but it did! (Assuming this is the thread you remember.)
Start of the story:
My landlord is suing me for lost property that belonged to him which I, perhaps foolishly, tossed out.
I signed a 1 year lease and moved into a furnished place a few years ago. The contract stated I needed to maintain the TV, the AC units, the washer, and the fridge. Nothing else. The furnishings (beds, sofas, and cabinetry) were very shabby to say the least. Falling apart, or grimy. After living there for a few months I purchased my own furnishings and asked the landlord to take his stuff away…
And a surprisingly successful resolution at the end:
Hi Everyone,
Long overdue update. This issue was resolved at my court appearance in January 2019. The judge threw out the case as I was not liable for the property that the landlord had left in my unit. It was not in the contract, and I had given the landlord ample notice and time to remove his property.
