This happened yesterday while I parked so my wife could enter 7/11. I pulled off the road even not blocking the motorcycle lane. While there 6 BMW and Benz parked next to me blocking the motorcycle lane and 1/3 of the car lane. The result was a small blockade every time the light changed green and cars tried to work around these 6 cars.
A policeman arrived and just wandered around the cars and peeked into the 7/11 where all the young people driving these cars were buying their drinks. Eventually the kids left 7/11 and drove off at high speeds in a very loud way and actually quite unsafe way considering the cars around them. I guess those stares by the cop will prevent these kids from blocking traffic again.
I understand the frustration with the selfish and idiot parkers. I really do. But there are scenarios in which a cop would refrain from ticketing that wouldn’t happen with a citizen reporter.
My wife goes to pick up our son in our car on his half days. Middle of the afternoon so low traffic on a wide street. The routine is for him to be standing outside while my wife drives by at the designated time. One day he gets in the car, realizes he left his lunchbox at the anchinban, runs back in to receive it. A live cop and there would be no ticket. An idiot citizen driving by just after our son was 3m away from the car and his car camera on, and just like that, a ticket in the mail a few days later.
We get the ticket. We remember how it transpired. Two pissed off people. Pissed off at the overzealous citizen. Pissed off at the system.
Or a counter-bounty paid to the reporters of the reporters of the violators. That would fix the vigilante, since self-appointed STAZI thrive on annonimity.
